Guest guest
My son in law, (30 y/0) diagnosed with Crohn's in May, following a couple of months of severe pain, followed the SCD diet for 3 months and last week went off. He has been pain free for several weeks, prednisone free for 4 weeks, and, in spite of a first non-SCD meal of hamburger and fries and, of course, his beloved Mountain Dew, and then a birthday weekend for his 1 year old niece, he is feeling fine. What does the future hold for him?
Guest guest
My guess would be that however much he's enjoying his " freedom " right now, his symptoms are going to come back pretty soon. 3 months really isn't enough for full healing. I guess he'll just have to learn. I hope he doesn't crash too badly, but some people have ato test it to really believe they must stick to the diet for a long time. What does the future hold for him? If he goes back to the Standard American Diet, which is what you pretty much described with burger, bun, fries, and soda, he can probably expect to be back where he was three and a half months ago. How long will it take? Don't know. But I've seen it happen, over and over. Elaine's daughter was symptom-free within two years, but stayed on the diet for a number of additional years to maximize healing. She now, I believe, eats about 90% SCD, with the occasional item that isn't. If one relapses by going back to the Standard American Diet, the next time, it will be harder to achieve remission, because the bad bacteria which have reproduced are the stronger ones which survived the first starve-out. It may be possible to have an occasional meal like the one you described, and I don't mean every week, but he'd be much better off following the Weston-Price method of eating if he wants to have grains and potatoes. Guest guest
Marilyn, could you explain what you mean by the Weston-Price method of eating? > >My son in law, (30 y/0) diagnosed with Crohn's > >in May, following a couple of months of severe > >pain, followed the SCD diet for 3 months and > >last week went off. > > It may be possible to have an occasional meal > like the one you described, and I don't mean > every week, but he'd be much better off following > the Weston-Price method of eating if he wants to > have grains and potatoes.
