All patients have a splint during surgery, as far as I know, but not

all have them post-op. My surgeon told me that if he had to segment my

upper jaw, I'd have the splint post-op. If he didn't have to segment,

then he'd just throw it away post-op.

That doesn't necessarily mean that you won't have a splint if your

upper jaw isn't segmented, though. Some surgeons just prefer to have

them in post-op.

It was made at my final pre-op visit, and I'm told it was just a thin

wafer.

My daughter has to wear her splint for 6 weeks.

Well for me, I had lower jaw advancement only..but I have to wear my

splint for 4 weeks while I am wired shut. Then, for 2 more weeks I

will be banded shut but no splint.
