You get your splint while your in surgery and for the most part, I believe that most say in about 3 weeks. Yes, they are hard to get used to but you do. You just feel like you've got a mouth full. Hope this helps. Tonya post-op upper and lower 7 days.
Guest guest
All patients have a splint during surgery, as far as I know, but not all have them post-op. My surgeon told me that if he had to segment my upper jaw, I'd have the splint post-op. If he didn't have to segment, then he'd just throw it away post-op. That doesn't necessarily mean that you won't have a splint if your upper jaw isn't segmented, though. Some surgeons just prefer to have them in post-op. It was made at my final pre-op visit, and I'm told it was just a thin wafer. Hope that helps, > When do you usually get your splint and do all patients have to have > them? Guest guest
Well for me, I had lower jaw advancement only..but I have to wear my splint for 4 weeks while I am wired shut. Then, for 2 more weeks I will be banded shut but no splint.
