Guest guest
Hi Elana, This is going to be a partial reply because it's late and I'm falling asleep at the computer - sorry! I will try to reply more another time. I had upper, lower and genio (plus a few other 'extra' procedures thrown in for good measure!) done on June 20th. I just had my jaw wires removed this afternoon, and am thrilled to be finally wireless. I've been wired since 8 weeks ago today, so I can't express to you just how happy I am that these are OUT of my mouth. The removal was close to painless, so a nice surprise there! As far as the 'best' doctor in the country for having this procedure done - I think there are very likely - many great doctors who can do this type of procedure. I did however, choose to have my surgeries done at the world famous Mayo clinic in Rochester. I have a very good doctor and he took me (a difficult case because so much needed to be done), and really did a pretty good job. I had swallowing problems, severe sleep apnea, along with some mild TMJ also - and it is all gone now since the surgery. I did have some problems post-op - nothing major, but problems never-the-less. They are going away, and so it's not anything that can't be dealt with. I've been unable to post to the group for a while now because I've been so horribly busy just catching up with everything after surgery. One of my children had surgery major leg shortly (a long story I won't go into now) before I did and he has needed a lot of care, so that has been part of the issue, he will be fine again soon as his leg is healing, but I also scalded my right hand rather badly cooking supper for my family two or three weeks ago which made it difficult to use the computer since I'm mainly right handed. That's better now, and can't tell I even got burned which is great. Now I'm just trying to read all the postings -I've missed so many of them! Plus trying to get three kids ready for back to school is keeping me super busy too. Just ask any questions you have, and I do understand your worry and concern! My older son will need to have corrective jaw surgery too, and after me just going through it, it's hard to think of him facing a similar surgery. Although he is a class 3 too, and has a jaw that protrudes or 'juts out' as you said your daughters does I don't think his will be as involved though hopefully! My problem was exactly the opposite as my sons if you can believe that. My jaw was too small - or retruded, and my sons sticks out too far! I think my son will only need one procedure done, he'll either need to have the LeFort 1 procedure as I did to bring his upper-jaw/mid-face forward to match his lower jaw, or he will need to have the lower jaw moved back. In my personal opinion, after learning a lot going through what I've just been through, I'm thinking he'll need the upper-jaw brought forward. I hope that's it though, and that he won't need the extensive work that I did, which involved 6 procedures. Take care and ask away, Judy
Guest guest
Judy - How nice to hear from you; you've been missed. Hope your hand and jaw are both on the mend. Well, I'm finally in braces! Got them (the bands and wires) on last Tuesday; the brackets were installed on July 26th. I'm slowly but surely getting used to the sensation of the pressure; the good news is that my teeth are starting to move - my gap between the upper two front teeth is almost completely closed, and a few teeth on the bottom look like they are changing their positions slightly too. My OD told me that there would be movement right away and to keep a positive outlook. Eating is a real chore since my teeth are sore, so I've been eating soft foods. My next OD appointment is Sept.13th; he says he will change the wire. I go back to my OMS in Dec. or Jan. - he says he will have a better idea about my need for the LeFort procedure six months out from the surgery. Well, that's it for now. Take care of yourself, okay? ~~ Diane--- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " rainbow55076 " <jkhmo3@c...> wrote: > Hi Elana, > This is going to be a partial reply because it's late and I'm > falling asleep at the computer - sorry!
