Guest guest
Hey all its kim t. well what a trial i've had recently!!!!!! I was due to have my gallbladder removed in the local hospital about 6 weeks ago and when the anethetist saw me he was concerned about intubating me for surgery due to my height. Apparently to intubate someone you need a clear way from the mouth to the lungs and because my jaw is small and shorter than 'normal' the doc thought he'd have a problem getting past this safely. Well i was taken to the operating room and remember have gas and a needle and the next thing i remember the anethetist was waking me up telling me he couldnt do the intubation as i was too small and his instruments and tubes were too big. They also tried to put a tube down my nose but because my nostrils are smaller than 'normal' my nose was bleeding and full of dry blood after their trial runs.So i was kept in hospital for two days as i was sick and had low blood pressure after the sedation etc. Anyway the surgeon and anethetist contacted the hospital on the scottish mainland and explained the difficaulties and i was sent there after a 2 week wait. Two anethetists saw me pre op and discussed various ways to intubate me for surgery and they decided to try using children size instruments and tubes and use a baby size camera down my nose if needed. The surgery was done key hole and although i was ill post op again i was allowed home on the plane 3 days later, last week. Although i'm still in a lot of pain i'm getting better but wish this rss didnt cause so much fuss and stress at times, ugh!!!!! The doctors in aberdeen where very helpful and concious of my needs being rss and also watching my sugar levels during fasting. i hope everyone is doing ok. Have any other of you rss adults had similar experiences when having surgery? Also the nursing staff say my blood pressure is consistently low and my pulse rate is too high, is this just me or have any other rss adults noticed this info Big hugs from a Wee ish Woman/lass Kim.L. 26,4'3 " ,RSS (UK) --------------------------------- To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo!
