Pre-surgery my weight was 138 but I had packed on 10 lbs on purpose in

preparation for the surgery. Now at 9 weeks post-op I weigh 122 lbs.

Despite being for the most part recovered (i.e. hardly any pain in my

jaw joints any more and 80% of my swelling has gone) I'm still

restricted in what I can eat. Last week my OMS gave me the ok to start

chewing but only soft foods. It still takes me a really long time to

eat food and I'm always the last one to finish at the table. I guess

eating more slowly by brain thinks it gets fuller with less food. From

my experience on this message board different people have different

weight losses. Some have lost as much as 30 lbs others have only lost 2

lbs. During the first few days most of the weight you lose is actually

only water, not actual body weight. During week 2 is when you start to

see the body weight drop. As for your appetite I promise that it will

eventually come back. I had my first piece of cured Italian ham the

other day. I just cut it up into small pieces and sucked on it until it

dissolved in my mouth. You'll find that as your jaw gets better you'll

be craving more and more things.

Hold on tight and you'll recovery will go well.

Thanks for the good advice, . Only received 2 responses( including yours)

to my post and I was beginning to think I am part on a very small minority with

this problem.

Peace,

It's common to lose weight at the beginning of SCD, but as you are able to add

new foods and actually absorb them, this is not as much an issue. Being able to

add nut butters brings back the pounds. You could eat snacks during the day like

fruit to give you a lift.

months !!! YEAH.. lol

> I started it at 123 pounds and still having one week left to wein off of

preds... I am now down to 113 to 117 depending on the time of day... How soon

until I start to gain some of that weight back??.. At 5'3 this just looks too

skinny for me.

> Also .. do you get your energy back???.. My boss as even commented on how

tired I look..Part is staying up late to read the post..lol and part is spending

any and all free time to cook ahead as much as possible.. Or is it all just the

change in eating???..(loss of sugar rush) and will it come back?

Hi,

I have been on the diet for 2 1/2 months. i started at 215lbs. Down to 180

today. I don't really feel as good as I had hoped losing all that weight. I

hope it means my body is still adjusting. I am getting concerned about the

weight loss. My ideal weight is around 160lbs. I ate like a pig before the UC

hit. Guess I am doing ok on the diet. cant eat much with out issues.

Hamburger, eggs, bananas, chicken cooked green squash and pears. Spinich went

right through me. Have been really good with keeping legal. Don't understand

why I am not much better. I am down to maybe 1 to 2 BM's a day usually in the

morn but they are small followed by loose stool and gas, about a 1/4 inch round.

Almost like my colon is dramatically swollen. I have no blood. I do pan fry

most of my meats ( little butter or olive oil) except whole chicken which I

roast. You see I love to cook and eat and boiled meat is just not acceptable :)

I will try to introduct yogurt tomorrow as I am finishing up a batch. Hope that

does not give me issues.

Thanks for all your help in advance.
