Guest guest
RUDY JOYCE you are talking about old fashioned hypertension that many people have including me it has probably nothing to do with the pulmonary fibrosis it is different from pulmonary hypertension that lots of people worry about with pulmonary fibrosis 200 over 100 is extremely high your doctor will probably put you on blood pressure medication normal blood pressure is 120 over 80 i'm almost surprised they didn't send you to the ER i kind of think of 200 over 100 as a "walking time bomb" i grew up with a mother who had hypertension that was out of control always knew that her top number was frequently over 200 never knew what her bottom number was was really surprised that she died from pancreatic cancer instead of a stroke because of my mother's hypertension, when i started cooking, i always limited the amount of salt, since i predicted that i might get it too as far as the heart being fine a couple of years ago, things change all the time, that's why some people get ekg's every year plus your heart is working extra hard pushing oxygen into your lungs or your blood or whatever it does if you were here, i would be yelling at you and taking you to the doctor Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: strange newsTo: Breathe-support Date: Friday, December 4, 2009, 8:02 PM I went to the Pendleton Center this afteenoon for my medically supervised exercise and before i start they take my pulse, my 02 and my blood pressure...my blood pressure after sitting for 10 minutes was 200/100 and they would not let me exercise. Guest guest
Joyce, I agree with what they told you at exercise today. Your blood pressure was seriously elevated and you need to see your doctor. Think of this for now as unrelated to your lung disease. Your blood pressure is too high. It was not safe for you to exercise today. So you'll go see your primary care doctor to look into why your bp was so high today. It's not stupid and it's not a waste of time. If you have chronically high blood pressure there are medications that can help control it. It's important that you look after yourself. It's even possible that some of your fatigue could be related to high blood pressure. Joyce this is all part of taking care of yourself. Any new symptom is something that should be investigated and looked after so that it does not add to your problems over the long haul. You tend to be hard on yourself and hold yourself to unreasonably high standards. Please be kind and patient with yourself. You are important to us! Guest guest
Joyce - The same thing happened to one of the guys in my morning rehab exercise session at the University. They sent him away and he was back the next week after they figured out what was up. It turned out he needed yet another medication, but with the adjustment, he was fine to exercise. They explained to him that was the express reason for testing O2 sat, blood pressure and heart monitoring. To make sure you are exercising safely and there are no lingering or newly developing situations that could put you at jeopardy. Take it in stride and all will be well.
