Thanks for posting this Mara.  A few months back I returned to my GI because of fatigue, brain fog, sleepiness and a general " underwater " feeling.  He tested a whole lot of stuff and one of my multiple deficinecies was amino acids.  I started supplementing them and within a few months I felt great and now have more energy than ever.  I don't know if it was the aminos or one of the other supplements I started taking but I believe it definately helped me balance out the imbalance I had in my system.

A genuine 'elixir of life' - at least for mice

A genuine " elixir of life " that can hold death at bay has been discovered by scientists.

The cocktail of amino acids - building blocks of proteins - was found to increase the lifespan of mice by 12 per cent.

Researchers believe it may also benefit humans, especially the elderly or sick.

The animals lived significantly longer than other mice fed a normal diet.

Their lifespan range had a midpoint of 869 days compared with 774 days for untreated mice, a difference of 12 per cent.

Longer survival was accompanied by biological changes which boosted the energy supply to cells and reduced oxidative damage caused by destructive molecules called free radicals.

The treated mice had more stamina and improved muscle co-ordination.

" This is the first demonstration that an amino acid mixture can increase survival in mice, " said study leader Dr Enzo Nisoli, from the University of Milan in Italy.

Last year scientists showed that the same amino acids, leucine, isoleucine and valine, could extend the lifespan of single-celled yeast.

The new findings, reported in the journal Cell Metabolism, raise the possibility of amino acid supplements benefiting humans....

That's interesting, Holly. What amino acids are you taking to supplement?Cause we could all stand to benefit from more energy. <g>MaraThanks for posting this Mara. Here is the link to the amino supplement that I take

I should say that I don't know if it is SCD legal but I consider it my " meds " .  It's a powder and I mix it with diluted juice because it does not taste good at all.  I take it 1 hour prior to breakfast and 1 hour prior to dinner.

Yes, I can attest to the power of Amino Acids. A few years ago, I was diafnosed with depression, but the anti-depressants gave me panic attacks, so I turned to herbal which helped a bit. Then I found The Mood Cure, by Ross. Her book will tell you which supplements you need based on your symptoms. It gave me my life back. The only drawback to Amino Acid therapy is you get a little addicted to the extra energy. When it was pretty clear to me that I didn't need the supplements anymore I didn't want to give them up. I was thinking what's the harm in a little extra energy? But after a while the energy turned into tension, then I knew I had to stop. Any good naturopath will tell you, supplementing individual Aminos can throw your system out of balance. So, I highly recommend them, but listen to your body and, stop taking them when your symptoms improve.
