HI,

My surgeon told me before surgery that he usually tells his patients that the

surgery won't make a big difference to their appearance but the surgery I was

having was going to make a BIG difference to my appearance and he was right. He

said that it takes 6-12 months to see the full final post op change.

I'm five months post op and still very swollen due to infection my surgeon says

it will be another few weeks before I see the final me.

So I'm nearly 12-weeks post op from upper LeFort I and very happy with

my new bite, but just dying for this swelling to

finally subside so I can decide whether I'm happy with my new

appearance (because so far, I'm not...I just don't look all that

different than before). Let me ask this: for those of you who are

happy with your post-op change in appearance, just how long was it

until your face settled into what you would call its " final " post-op

form? My cousin who had this surgery told me that it was a full 6-

months until she really saw the " new her " . But what confuses me is

that I look at the before/after pics in the Photos section and it

seems that nearly everyone who has a dramatic positive change in

appearance looks strikingly better just two or three weeks post-op.

But most people tell me that they can't see any difference in my face

and its been nearly 3 months.

Trader Dan, I'm 4 and half months post op and I'm still waiting for

all my swelling to go down. I'm bracing myself for a 6 to 12 months

wait until I can say " ok, here's my FINAL face " . I can tell you this.

Some days I look in the mirror and I say to myself " hey i can really

see a difference, and I like it! " , other days I say " hey I see a

difference and I don't like it, where's my old face? i want it back "

other days I say AND lastly I have days where I look in the mirror

and I see no difference, no change and I'm generally disatisfied. So

I guess what I'm saying is that it takes time and patience so don't

jump to conclusions just yet.

Jill,

I don't know how I got an infection but was told many times before surgery that

there was a risk of infection pot-op. After all I had 8 fresh wounds. I had my

first infection at three weeks post-op.
