Guest guest
" Funny " that the topic of -not being all the way out- has come up. I've been pretty upset about this issue and I was afraid to ask anyone for fear of spreading the fear! I've asked around and I too have heard that this is mostly a problem with heart surgeries. My surgeon says that this is because a different anesthesia is used for heart surgeries... So, I've decided not to worry about. I'm glad that the issue was raised here so I can continue to *not worry about it.* Thanks for this group! Guest guest
Sue - Not being fully out has been really hyped up in the media lately. They've had a few " documentaries " about it and the TV show Nip/Tuck also used it as part of a plot. While getting my wisdom teeth out, I experienced this BEFORE the doctor started the procedure. The meds they use at the dentist aren't as strong and the paralyzing effect took place before the unconscious effect, so I was thinking pretty clearly as I lay there unable to move or open my eyes. It was scary but I was finally able to jolt upright and the doctor assured me that the meds hadn't completely taken over yet. I'm planning on speaking to my anesthesiologist about this before sugery just to feel more comfortable about it. You should too. Does anyone else have any other advice? > > , > > Glad to hear your surgery went so well. Also thank you for giving > such > > a great explanation of our process. Guest guest
- If I hadn't been able to jolt upright, I would have just fallen asleep shortly after. It wouldn't have resulted in anything bad. It was just scary for a moment. It's definitely a good idea to talk to the anesthesiologist though...I'm glad yours was very understanding and willing to reassure you. > > > , > > > Glad to hear your surgery went so well.
