Israeli coffee

Don't worry- I know better than to try instant coffee which is illegal because

of the processing, but my daughter loves Israeli coffee- says it tastes

different.

I just bought her some Elite instant coffee from Israel and it says 100 % pure

coffee on the can. I know some people on this board have traveled to Israel and

I wonder if anyone has checked out the legality of this, or if they process it

differently there.

Just curious...not going to drink it myself.

Elite coffee - blech!!! Granted, it may taste better than American

instant coffee, but that's hardly an endorsement! <vbg>

I can't imagine that it is legal and I can't imagine wanting to drink it unless

I had to!!

At one point it was really hard to get anything other than Elite (or Turkish)

unless you were

actually at a coffee house, but (heh!) I succeeded. But since I grew up

drinking

coffee from freshly ground beans - (I even took a coffee grinder to college

with me! -

this was long before the days of Starbucks) I never liked it.

I'm pretty sure from past recollection the stuff just dissolves in your cup - we

used to

make " iced coffee " by adding cold milk and sugar to the instant coffee - so I

can't imagine

coffee processed like that could be legal in any way.

I'm a coffee bean snob too, but she loves it. An Israeli scout had it at summer

camp. I guess to the kids, it's special if it comes from there, and it is easy

to mix into the milk.

I've never had it. I was just hoping that other countries did not put all the

garbage that we do in our processed food.
