Guest guest
June How were your amylase levels? I’m guessing your doctor was concerned about pancreatic disorders, and usually the tests look at lipase and amylase at the same time. How are your liver enzyme levels, the AST and ALT? Most of my research has been with liver enzymes and biliary tree disorders, not so much with the pancreas, so I am not as knowledgeable when it comes to lipase. With my Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction I have to be super careful with fats, so I am on a low-fat version of SCD (and low-fiber and low-carb and bland!). It works well for me. I would ask your doctor about the lipase levels, and I would also ask for another test. Liver and pancreatic enzymes can fluctuate dramatically when there is a major upper GI flare-up, so it is sensible to get tested a week or two after the symptoms have subsided to confirm an ongoing issue. Many times the enzyme levels are back to normal. Unless of course you are experiencing severe pain in the area around the pancreas, in which case you may be dealing with pancreatitis. And that isn’t something you want to wait on, so head for the ER or your doctors as soon as possible. Kim M. My lipase was 299, just under the normal range of 300. Should I be worried? It was taken when I was having a mast cell reaction with uncontrolled vomiting.
