Guest guest
Hi All, My surgery is coming up fast! My pre-op appointment is next Tues and I'm scheduled for 8:30am on Wed. I've met quite a few people who have had this surgery in the past few months. They all say its the best thing they ever did. I figure it has 3 positives: 1. Better Jaw functionality 2. Improvement of looks 3. Weightloss! Has anyone experienced a sense of claustophia when they first wake up in recovery? I'm afraid I'll be out of it and confused that my mouth is wired shut. Any tips on eating? I have a blender recipe book, got vaseline for lips, nasal decongestion liquid, a water pik, a new blender and a Doodle Pro for the first day of swollen lips when I can't enunciate. I'm heading out this weekend to get protein shakes ect. Am I missing anything? Good Luck to anyone one else having surgery soon!
Guest guest
Hi - good luck on Wednesday! You could have a heating pad for your face for after the first two days. It's supposed to help in the healing process - ice the first 2 days, then heat. Ask your OS about it. Also, syringes - you can get them at a medical supply store - they are great for eating, you can get the food to the back of your mouth, and not all over your teeth. > > Hi All, > > My surgery is coming up fast! Guest guest
Hi , everything sounds good except for vaseline. I bought the book " Let's Do Lunch " that says, " Lip moisturizer, available in squeeze tubes and small salve jars, lubricates dry, cracked lips. Do not use Vaseline or petroleum jelly products as these produce peeling of swollen tissues. " As for the nasal congestion, I'm pretty sure you'll be getting nasal spray along with instructions for it and how long to use it. ~Joanne > > > > > Hi All, > > > > My surgery is coming up fast! Guest guest
Hi , I am preop so don't have any experience with recovery, but from other surgeries I have had where it is important to be positioned with my head and upper body on an incline, I have found a recliner to be my best friend! lol Some people also use pillow wedges and pillows to help you maintain that position for recovery. I just found a recliner a lot easier. And I kept a table on either side, so I could keep my meds and water, a touch lamp, kleenex, a phone, a walkie talkie (for this surgery, at least the beep part would work), batteries, my remotes for the TV, a pad and pencil to keep track of my meds (it is easy to lose track of when to take what), and whatever else you need nearby for this surgery. I am also going to have a syringe pack to help with getting fluids down. I am sure some of this surgery's vets can help you more specifically. I know for me, just setting up all the stuff to make my recovery more prepared for, makes me feel more in control of my recovery. I think it eases my concerns. And good luck on Wednesday! Will be thinking of you and watching for posts as you feel up to it. Hugs, Fran > > Hi All, > > My surgery is coming up fast! My pre-op appointment is next Tues and > I'm scheduled for 8:30am on Wed.
