Guest guest
Hi Connie, I read your post to Ash about missing her post and I'm wondering if maybe you also missed MY post to you too??? I was just writing to check in on you and your poor jaw. I think it was the end of the 10th/begining of the 11th. I'm always posting in the middle of the night so hard to say which day. Anyway, I hope you are feeling much better and hear only good things from your OS this week. I meet with my OS today (13th) for my 6month check up. I've been having some strange things going on that I'll post tomorrow once I know what's going on!! In your post to Ash, you mentioned a numb tongue which I was surprised to read because I thought I was the ONLY ONE! No one ever mentions numbness in their tongues!! One side of mine is pretty (not completely) numb STILL... This is the numbness I care about recovering the most, then the lip (we've already discussed kissing on this board I think!) I care the least about my chin, which actually isn't completely numb. Nothing is completely numb... My tongue at this point seems to be having some altered sensation. It's one of the things I'll be asking my OS about. I spoke with one girl at my OD's office and she said it took her a full year to regain all of her feeling, but that she did. So, I've got 1/2 a year to go at least, and you have longer than that. Have you found that your eating ability is affected by the diminished feeling in your tongue? That is one thing that's affected my eating a lot. Depending on how numb you still are, you may notice it when you get that splint off (SOON! I hope!!! The cruise sounds very exciting!!!) I had/have a harder time dealing with food on that side of my mouth because it just is harder to manipulate if you can't feel it there. And I've lost pills in my mouth. How about you? Where are you numb? How has it been for you. Can't wait to hear what your OS says at your appt! I hope you're healing up speedily! Guest guest
Katja, Actually my jaw is feeling much better today. I've not only been careful in what I've been eating, but also in what I've been doing the past week. I've been laying around, as much as possible with a husband and 3 kids. My 3 year old and I took a leisurely walk yesterday, down to the post office and grocery store. It was a little over a mile, and I didn't know if I would make it home. I'm so out of shape, although the harder part of the trip is the way home. The entire walk into town is downhill (I live on a hill at the edge of town), but the entire way back is uphill. I wish it were reversed. Anyways, I'm glad to know someone else has the tongue thing going on. The strange thing is, I can still taste for the most part. When people hear my tongue is numb they always ask me if I can taste. When I say yes they ask if I have no feeling how I can still taste. How would I know? Evidently, I hadn't told this to my OS, and at my appointment a few weeks ago I mentioned it and he was upset I hadn't told him before. To be honest, I didn't know for quite a while. After all, my mouth wouldn't open large enough to even get my toothbrush inside, so how would I know my tongue was numb. I too lose pills and sometimes have to look in the mirror or have my husband take a peek to see if they actually went down. I'm very curious to find out the strange things that are going on with you. You have me intrigued now. I'll be pacing the board waiting to hear what they are. Hope all goes well at your appointment.
