Guest guest
Hi Sriram, you've made it 10 days and probably past the worst part - I'm at 3 weeks and feeling alot better, although not 'healed' yet. 1. You can't rush the numbness issues. You can play a real psychological game with yourself over the numbness, just try and be patient because it does take a looonnnnggg time. Some numbness may take 6 months to recover - some may not recover. But there's no way to know what will happen for you. (I tell myself this daily). I do know that the wierd way it feels now, is not how it will always feel, even if you don't regain all the feeling back, it was feel more normal to you, but may just not have the same sensation when you touch it. Kind of hard to explain. 2. I'm not sure you can get addicted to ibuprofen. I am 3 weeks and still taking acetaminophen (tylenol) - in fact, I have just stopped taking it during the day and only take it in the evening and night, which is when mine hurts more. Just ask your Dr., if he says it's o.k. then you're probably o.k., it's not worth suffering through the pain and discomfort. 3. I still use my nasal spray at night before bed. I don't get any blood anymore, but mine lasted for a good week or so too. 4. I have a friend who was wired for 6 weeks, I'm not sure how long of an advancement she had done. I guess you just need to be patient with this too - trust your Dr. Possibly changing the bands means just new bands, since the old ones may slacken a bit, or maybe he means change their configuration. I hope you are doing well though and are keeping your spirits up. It's a long recovery, Take care, Pam > > Hi Folks, > > It has been 10 days since my surgery (lefort-1, bsso, genio) - overbite > correction. Guest guest
Hi Sriram I am like Pam 3 weeks+ post op. I had top & bottom advancement, genio and gummy smile. I still have cheeks and most of top lip numb, the right side still is more swollon than the left and most of my bottom lip and chin is numb. You need to come to terms with this as its a long time before the feeling comes back. Every day I feel more than the day before, but it can take up to 2 months. The congestion I feel is more because my sinuses are swollen and thats why I get the feeling of being congested myself. If you are not taking any pain killers during the day and are only taking tham at nigh, I think you are doing fantastic. The surgeon is right. I have been banded and will continue until he 6 weeks are up. Its the muscles that need to be adjusted to the new position, so the bands help the bone heal to the new position and the muscles to help strech to the new bite position. Trust your doctor they know what they are talking about and even tough the bands are tight and are hard to take at times, know that its the best thing for you, Keep you rchin up you are doing very well. Guest guest
Hi Sriram, I just quickly scanned your post. I had the same surgery 3 years ago, although my lower advancement was not as great as yours. It's good that your surgeon is being cautious, and I'd advise you to do the same, regarding your recovery. Patience is key. You shouldn't blow your nose until your surgeon gives the ok. Mine said no pressure, so he allowed me to blow with my mouth open, and just a gentle puff. That was entirely useless, so I didn't bother with it. I did use q-tips and hydrogen peroxide solution (get at the pharmacy) and gently cleaned my nose out every time I cleaned my mouth (which was a lot - I used over 600 q-tips post-op). As Cammie said, don't worry about iboprofen being addictive. The key is to stay on top of the pain (or discomfort, I didn't have pain). It's much harder to catch up once it's allowed to run freely. I took liquid Tylenol every 3-4 hours. My husband monitored it for me and woke me up on schedule - in the hospital he went to the nursing station and made sure they came to give me my meds on schedule - even when they didn't want to in the middle of the night! Happy healing, > > Hi Folks, > > It has been 10 days since my surgery (lefort-1, bsso, genio) - overbite > correction.
