Guest guest
Hi, . I am also a relatively newly diagnosed Celiac (4/10) and began the diet in May. I haven't been able to have dairy for about 8 yrs now. Both almond and coconut milks are legal if you make them yourself. pecanbread.com has a stages section that gives suggestions about introducing foods. In terms of legal substitutions, it depends a lot on the recipe. I use coconut oil in place of butter when baking. So far, I just use recipes that do not call for cheese or yogurt, unless it is a very minor ingredient that can just be left out. If you have a question about a specific recipe, can always post it to the group. Some very creative cooks around here. Agave is not legal on the SCD:http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_a-c.htmBest wishes, Kelley Hey All, Let me first just say how awesome it is that this group exists! I am starting the SCD diet in a week or so and know that it will make it a lot easier to have you all to come to when I have questions. With that, here are a few: 1) I am not using any dairy while on the diet, as this seems to cause issues for me and have heard it's typical for most Celiac's. Does anyone have recommendations on other things that are legal? Almond milk and coconut milk seem ok, but am not sure these are legal (at least right away legal). 2) Can agave nectar be used instead of honey? It has a low glycemic index ( 2 TBS = 32 carbs, 30 glycemic index, 9.6 glycemic load). Thanks in advance! HOMEMADE almond milk and coconut milk are SCD-legal. There is no commercial brand which is safe. 2) Can agave nectar be used instead of honey? I will have to find and repost WHY it's illegal. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
