Guest guest
This is how I've been feeling - much worse in the beginning of the diet - to the point of feeling like I was having a seizure for few days. I did attribute it to die-off. It settled down a bit (except prior to bowel activity - then stops when I pass gas or have a bowel movement) and then came back again (but not as bad) when I started Sacro-B. I am eating every hour and 15 minutes to 2 hours and that helps with the hypoglycemia aspect but the shakiness is different than the hypoglycemia. Update: Shaky, Tongue Numbness, etc. DIE OFF? or what??? Okay, so got an " update " from my husband today... He's having " inner " shakes (feeling like his whole body is shaking, but outwardly it's not), numbness feeling or tingling in his tongue, feeling extremely weak (to the point of thinking he's going to pass out), and severe inability to focus or concentrate on mental tasks at work. With all that said, he thought it was just after eating protein (hence the post yesterday!), but did a " test " today and it started before he even had anything to eat, and continued throughout the entire day, no matter what he ate. He's feeling AWFUL, and while he had some of these symptoms pre-SCD (we were gluten and dairy free though), he says that it has gotten progressively worse since beginning the SCD about 3 weeks ago. Is this Die Off? Or something else? We don't want to automatically go " die off " , when something serious could be going on that shouldn't be discounted or " trudged through " . Any help is much (and greatly!) appreciated right now!!! Carissa
Guest guest
I meant to mention that he has checked his blood sugar all throughout the day today, and his numbers are normal --- not low at all, like hypoglycemia. So while the " symptoms " are similar or the same, it's definitely not hypoglycemia itself. Which, again, makes us wonder... " Is this die off??? or something else? Guest guest
So Janine, How long have you been doing the diet? And are you still having the same issues? Or have they passed? I know you said you attributed the same problems as my husband is having, to die off... So looking back, is that what you think it was? Or are you still experiencing those things? Do you have hypoglycemia as well? Or are you just saying that it was " like " hypoglycemia, but different (see my other response on my husband's blood sugar numbers today). Thank you for your reply!!! =) We're doing our best to figure all of this stuff out! =) > > This is how I've been feeling - much worse in the beginning of the diet - to > the point of feeling like I was having a seizure for few days. Guest guest
I also had/have a similar experience of getting shaky, dizzy, losing my brain functioning and taking my blood glucose levels only to discover it is within normal range (well, normal for me!) -- so not hypoglycemia. Eating and drinking always helps me get back to normal. In my case it is usually a metabolic need for more energy resources and hydration. I dehydrate easily [sigh]. And if I've been standing for more than 15 minutes, then I need to sit down for a while, which also helps with the shakiness -- but that's because of having orthostatic hypotension. I can tell when it is this problem, not just needing food and drink, because of the severe nausea that kicks in first. I usually get nausea after I eat, thanks to my upper GI disorders [grin]. Nausea before I eat is either pain-related, migraine-related, or orthostatic hypotension. So I have learned the signals my body gives me so I know how to fix things. I used my blood glucose meter frequently during the first year on SCD, until I'd worked out my foods and timing. Now I just use it occasionally when I get an episode of the shakes, etc., and want to check whether it's related to hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Nine times out of ten my reactions aren't due to blood sugar fluctuations, but to needing fuel -- food and drink. Kim M. Guest guest
I dehydrate very easily too, and also am super sensitive to standing up (and almost passing out) than " normal " people seem to be. So getting off topic now (forget my husband, let's talk about me! hahaha), what are your experiences with these things??? > > > > I meant to mention that he has checked his blood sugar all throughout the day today, and his numbers are normal --- not low at all, like hypoglycemia. Guest guest
I have had to manage hypoglycemia for about 35 years and the symptoms when blood sugar is low are NOT pleasant. I am delighted your husband does not have it, but here's a random thought for you. I think the adjustments of the diet could cause fake feelings like this, not really low blood sugar but feeling to him like it is. Why not try having him eat a healthy snack when he gets these attacks and see what happens? It might just help. I'll bet it will go away after awhile. Since you know his blood sugar really is OK, you don't have to worry about that, just avoiding unpleasant symptoms. Very Interesting Kim, thanks! His blood sugar numbers are always fine, despite his " hypoglycemic like symptoms " . So I know it's not hypoglycemia (I had that several years ago, and know what that's like), but the symptoms are sure similar. I think his bowels are " normal " , and no, he's not on any vitamins. The weird thing is that he's the " best " out of our whole family as far as digestion and stuff goes. Where as my son and I (the worst one's) have had nothing but improvement!! There was one day when I felt " flu like " for a few hours, but after that, nothing. So it's just surprising for him to be going through awful die off compared to everyone else not going through hardly anything at all. We'll see though! It's encouraging to hear everyone say " yes, this happened to me, and it went away " . If it doesn't though after a while then we will definitely head to the doctor! =) Thanks a lot!
