Disability unless you are totally unable to work and a doctor will certify that that is the case. They're also look at all your medical records and may get other medical people to review them. You can read the criteria on the Social Security website. >If anyone out there has been > approved for disability for Crohn's, UC or Celiac, would you please contact me and > tell me your story about how you were approved, how long it took, and how much > support you received financially after approved, as well as the medical coverage > you were provided during that time. And does a person potentially need to hire a lawyer to be more> effective in getting their case file approved?>I think the percentage is probably higher than 60%t. I've read that almost nobody is initially approved, but I don't know the exact figures; and yes it does help to hire a lawyer who is knowledgeable about SS Disability. I personally don't know of anyone with Crohn's who's gotten SS Disability benefits, though there may well be some, of course. (I have it myself and simply had to stop working, then could work only part time for years; couldn't even get unemployment because most of my work had been part time.)-- Now available. Guest guest
Hi , I don't know how it works in Washington, but in California there are two types of disability, short-term and permanent. Getting the short-term is relatively easy...it's the kind you use break your leg...it's assumed that there will be a healing period and then you'll be able to return to work full-time in the near future. The permanent is for people who may never be able to work. I collected the short-term after I went down from a flu shot in November '08. I knew nothing about it, but did have doctor who was willing to work with me. I collected for five months and then the doctor decided it was time for me to get back to work and " be productive, " although I had barely begun to heal. I think the period for short-term in California could run as long as two years, though, but I don't have a lot of conscious recollection from that time period of my life. I've heard the permanent is really difficult to get. Good luck, I hope you get it and you're able to heal. Guest guest
I have applied for disability through my employer and they determined I have a loss of earnings due to the disease. It is very hard to qualify for any state coverage but if you are employed you probably have coverage that you may not know about because you don't pay for the premiums. Most employers offer group ltd and if you have had a loss of time and earnings due to fatigue, urgency, stomach pain or frequent bathroom trips you should qualify. Did you ask your hr person about the group plan? > > Hi everyone, > > Sorry everyone, this is sort of off topic from SCD. I have been an SCD follower > for a long time.
