Guest guest
Ava, Katy is a little better at this than I am, but I know she is finishing up MAGIC's latest newsletter tonight! As Pat mentioned the drug is an aromatase inhibitor. It's purpose for your daughter is to slow down her rapidly advancing bone age. The Lupron she is taking (I think that's what you said) is delaying puberty to allow for more growth time, but it does not stop her bone age. Therefore, her bone plates are still advancing toward fusing and thereby stopping additional growth. Does this make sense? The aromatase inhibitor should slow down her bone age and give her more time before her bone plate's fuse. By giving the aromatase inhibitor and the Lupron and the gHT, Dr. H is MAXIMIZING all avenues to gain growth for ita. Does that help a little?? Dr. H just prescribed an aromatase inhibitor for our 4yr old daughter. Her bone age is now nearly 7. Hopefully, the aromatase inhibitor will allow her actual age to " catch up " to her bone age before puberty. Then Dr. H indicated the next step is that when Alyssa starts displaying signs of puberty, to ADD a drug like Lupron to stop the puberty (again buying growth time) and gHT. I believe by stopping puberty with Lupron you also stop growth so to speak, so the gHT is to start the growth again. Please realize I am not a doctor and this is simply what I think Dr. H explained to me last weekl!! If you have any questions about her treatment you should ask!!! I know she can be intimidating, but she will explain if you ask questions!!!! Dayna*--- _____ From: RSS-Support [mailto:RSS-Support ] On Behalf Of avaparent Sent: Wednesday, February 01, 2006 6:10 PM To: RSS-Support Subject: Letrozole .............and I am sooooo upset! Help, can anyone help! Our prayers were finally answered. Today, Dr. H has given ita a script for something called Letrozole as/and/or a growth hormone!!!! I cannot contain myself I am so excited because the doctors here in MI and IL said her growing was done... and she would be 4ft 3 " and please leave their offices ( o.k. not quite that blunt). So I called the primary insurance and told them the name and they asked me why it was scripted. All I knew to say was SGA and they flatly told me NO, it is not approved for SGA. I then told them I don't really know because I have no results for the rest of the testing which was done. Dr. H ran many different tests like the Igf series etc on my child so perhaps I said the wrong thing. Does anyone have experience with this drug? Can you tell me the main reason it would be perscribed. Maybe it is because the primary which is BcBs IL is fond of making denials and perhaps my insurance bcbs MI will approve it. (My x has the lowest level insuraance a group can get!) I know Dr. Mercado or Dr. H will get back to me but can someone tell me something about this drug please!!!!!!!!!! The script only says Letrozole and I believe Dr. H was going to do a separate script for a Growth Hormone, i think???? AvaMarie
Guest guest
I don't recall if Pat mentioned this or not, so please forgive me if I am repeating what she already said.... An aromatase inhibitor prevents the production, or slows down the production, of estrogen. Too much estrogen is the reason that adrenarche begins and the bone age advances. " Estrogen is not our friend " is what Dr. H. said one year at the convention. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Dayna, I really feel as though ita is now in the hands of someone who can really help her. I now understand what the differance is. Right now Dr. H is getting with the insurance company about the growth hormone. I re-read the email, I was just so excited. I thought the Letrozole was the GH, urgh!!! I now know this is a step to maximize my daughters chances and I appreciate your explanation. I just grabbed my wallet and went to get the medication tonight right after I read Pats explanation. ita has had her frist dose of- bone growth- control!!!! Your daughter is going through something much of the same. I am so happy that you have the help you need for her so much earlier because this has been something for us. We literally got help right under the wire as to itas bone age. I really appreciate learning about all the things Dr. H is in the process of putting into place and I now know if there is anyway to get more height we will get it now!! I will speak to her but I was just so elated when I got the email; and then when I had a problem I could not think anymore than to get to the listserv...and right away... I felt o.k. This is a GOOD thing. AvaMarie > > Ava, > > > > Katy is a little better at this than I am, but I know she is finishing up > MAGIC's latest newsletter tonight! Guest guest
Jodi Z, That is a good way of putting it because I have been tense each and every bone age I got for ita. Perhaps we can finally stop running from the... Bony Man!
