Guest guest
Hi Stacey, I surely don't blame you for all your questions. My OS preferred waiting until the jaw healed a bit before applying pressure with the bands. He put the bands on at around 4 weeks postop. As far as not being splinted, my OS informed me that he was right on with the movement of the jaw and didn't need the splint. He did state to me before surgery that the splint would only be used if necessary. Luckily for me it wasn't needed. A lefort 3-piece is where the OS segments the jaw in 3 pieces and moves each segment to its appropriate position. My front four teeth was moved forward and down over the bottom teeth to close up the open bite. The other 2 parts of the jaw was widened. Likewise, a 2-piece Lefort is where the OS segments the jaw in 2 pieces. My OS was trying to aim for the Lefort 1-piece because this is where he moves your jaw without any segmenting into pieces. He informed me that this one has less risk complications than the 3-piece which I ended up with. Yes, I did have numbness in my cheeks and upper lip which is just about completely gone. I still have a little numbness in my upper gums, which it to be expected. The numbness starting really decreasing at about 5 weeks postop. I still have a little swelling underneath the lip, but no one really notices unless I point it out to them. As far as the stuffiness goes, My OS gave me some sinus spray which I used religiously when I came home. I also kept myself propped up with pillows 24/7 which helped also. My stuffiness started clearing up around 5 days post op. Anyway, I hope this answers some of your questions! Feel free to ask more if needed. --Caboose > > > I am scheduled for my LeFort I surgery on October > > 20th.
