Guest guest
Hi all, thank you so much for all your answers on my question about the lazy eyes, it helped me a lot. I know now that it's common for kids with RSS,though it's not noticed officially. But there's something else I'm very curious about. Three days a week I'm a intern at a school for children with a psycological handicap. In there I see a lot of things that would have been SO good for me when I was a kid, things that I needed (and some I still do)like VERY much structure, more teachers in the class so everyone can get the attention they need... I also connect easier to the children who have such a handicap, very much easier then the rest of the teacher. Now I think you know what my question will be; who knows something about psycological problems that come with RSS? The only thing I ever here about it are physical problems... Who knows something about this? Thanks very much! Amy
Guest guest
I guess it depends on what you mean by " psychological problems. " There have been studies on psychological issues related to being extremely short-statured, but it is controversial. And Dr. H seems to feel that there may be a slightly increased incidence of ADD & ADHD. However, it may also be that the types of children whose parents seek out things like the listserve and Dr. Harbison are also the children with more issues. But none of the larger " feature-type " studies on RSS have isolated any specific psychological problem that is more characteristic of an RSS children than the general population. I think any child with a medical or chronic disorder is going to feel " different " than other children, regardless of what the chronic illness is. I would guess that all of our children could benefit from talking with a counselor once in a while, to share feelings, etc. (then again, maybe everyone would benefit!) HA! Anyway, don't know if this answered your question at all.... > > Hi all, > > thank you so much for all your answers on my question about the lazy > eyes, it helped me a lot.
