Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Congrats on making it to the other side!!! Day 3-5 were deffinately the worst for me too. MY surgeon had a hard time doing my nose as I was born with a cleft lip and palate and it affected my nose and as my surgeon said nothing was in it's right place so he had to go looking!!! When I saw my first post-op x-rays all I could see was the hardware!!! --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
Hi Sandy So glad to hear that everything went as planned. You sound pretty positive. And at last able to breath better wow I cant wait to be free of apnea too. The diet thing does not sound like fun though. I bet you are glad the surgery is over and I will be thinking of you during your recovery. All the best. Guest guest
Sandy - Wow, you made it thru to the other side! Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear that nearly everything (except your nose) went well with your surgery and that you are past the worst of your recovery (days 3 to 5). Looks like your case of OSA is a thing of the past. Thank you for clarifying the ice vs heat issue for us. It sounds like you and Jill will be eating the same things, as she was unwired today. Rest up and take care of yourself, okay? Best of everything to you! ~~~~ Diane (Idaho) > > Greetings all, > Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon > and Tues. Guest guest
Diane, Everytime I hear, " Made it thru to the other side. " it makes me smile. : ) (It also reminds me of 'The Doors', " Break on thru to the other side " .) Oops, I'm dating myself. Thanks, yeah the diet thing stinks but I'm slowly adding to my menu. After I wrote today, I decided to try pureed mac n/ cheese. Wasn't too bad. Tomorrow I may try scrambled eggs. : ) All the best, Sandy > > > > Greetings all, > > Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon > > and Tues. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Thank you for the update. I've been thinking a lot about you! Glad to hear you're feeling better and that your breathing passage has improved so much. I hope your recovery continues to improve for you each day. I look forward to your pictures and further updates. I'm must behind you.a week from tomorrow. Yikes! Sorry to hear about the soccer game.sounds like they played a good game. I've had the battery run out on me many times. It usually seems to happen at the worst time. Take care, Diane, Oregon _____ From: orthognathicsurgerysupport [mailto:orthognathicsurgerysupport ] On Behalf Of forbz13 Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2005 9:49 AM To: orthognathicsurgerysupport Subject: The Other Side!!!! - Upper, Lower, Genio, etc for OSA Greetings all, Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon and Tues. I had too many other things to catch up. When they say days 3-5 are the worst...believe it, but it's all behind and I feel better every day! Had my surgery on Nov. 2nd around 1:00 pm, was in the critical care unit until Thursday, Nov. 3rd and Doc asked if I wanted to stay (go to a regular room) or go home. Chose to come home. Everything went as planned except the fact that I had the worst nose and sinuses to work around (sinuses are very small, but sinus cavity is big). The tubes that they put in your nose for your breathing and your stomach caused some major bleeding in my nose so it took them an hour to get that squared away (I was of course under). OS moved my upper ahead 5 mm and up 5 mm, moved bottom out something like 17 mm, I believe he expanded my upper and put a chin implant in. Needless to say, went to the OS yesterday and saw the results on xray! My breathing passage went from 4-5 mm to a whopping 15-17 mm!!!!! What an amazing before and after xray. Can tell a difference in my breathing already!! Just wished this nose would heal up. Getting kind of tired of this liquid diet, but was finally able to dring through a straw this morning (was using a small food baster previously). Actually had some mashed potatoes on Mon., boy I never realized how much we take eating for granted. Might try scrambled eggs maybe by Fri/Sat. I'm banded shut with minumum movement, but if I can get them in the mouth and squish them on the roof of my mouth, I just might be able to add one more food item to the diet. I've lost about 5-6 lbs so far, but that's OK, I did my fair share of eating and gaining pre-op. Right now, just trying to keep a steady flow of liquids, vitamins and nutrients to heal quickly. I took pre-op, 1-day post-op and 5-day post-op pics that I will try to upload as soon as I can...right now I'm going to go take a rest and apply some heat...been sleeping a little better each night, but still have bouts of pain in my ears (due to banding) and my right side still being swollen. Oh, fyi on the ice...heat dilemna. My OS instructed me to use ice for the first 48 hours, but definitely heat after that. He said that ice for too long will cause infections. Which makes sense, because after you control the amount of swelling, you want the blood to flow to the area to heal. I notice that when I use the heat...yes I feel like I puffed up a little, but after about 15 minutes or so it goes down and I definitely feel better. Sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to let everyone know how I was doing. Thanks for everyone's support!!!! Sandy PS - Regarding my son's College Soccer Semi-Finals, unfortunately they lost 2-1, but my daughter taped most of it (until the battery died) so I did get to see it. They played an AWESOME game, but 2 yellow cards on one of their guys (which neither one was deserved - I should send a copy of the tape to the officials) caused them to have to play one man down for the last 20 min. of the game and couldn't hang on....Oh, well, they made it that far...the first in a very, very long time. Guest guest
Hi Diane, Best of Luck in your adventure. Just remember as the guy on " The Waterboy " says, " YOU CAN DO IT!!! " ......and Yes, days 3-5 are the most challenging, but with great support and caring from home and here, you will be fine. I know as a mother/wife it's sometimes hard to let people take care of you, but this is the time to call in all those favors and be coddled and waited on. With all my best. Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I am glad all went well for you. What a great post! I love it when people post so descriptively post op. I think I am going to try to find some non-latex syringes (am allergic to latex). I have heard others mention them, but since I am supposed to be banded, i thought I might not need to go that route. Now I am thinking that even with banding, the syringes might be necessary anyway, since you can't open enough to actually mash your food with your tongue well. Thank you for that. Sorry about your son's game! But I am glad they got that far and did so well! You must be popping buttons! Get your rest, and will watch for your posts as you feel up to it! Glad you are home and doing well! Hugs, Fran > > Greetings all, > Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon > and Tues. I had too many other things to catch up. Guest guest
Hi Fran, Yeah, definitely get the syringes....they were my BEST FRIEND while trying to get liquids and medicine in. I still use one for my antibiotic, so much easier then watching it run down the chin. : ) All My Best, Sandy > > > > Greetings all, > > Sorry I haven't written, was kind of out of it Wed. thru Sun.; Mon > > and Tues.
