Just an observation I had and I don't really have a solution......just hugs for everyone (including myself!) ~Hugs Melty~ Hey Melty, I too, went from 146 to 155 in a matter of a couple of days. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of losing (13 months out), and could NOT figure out why the heck I actually put back on about 10 pounds!! I was talking to VitaMom, and during the course of our discussion, water intake came up. Usually I make my shakes in 32oz of water, 5 per day, so I thought, " Gee, I'm killing two birds with one stone! " meaning that I thought I was getting sufficient water intake. However, brought up a VERY good point ~ Let my poor kidneys have just PURE WATER, and DO NOT MAKE THEM HAVE TO PROCESS EVERYTHING THAT GOES THROUGH THEM... Since then, I have cut the amount of water in my shakes pretty much in half, and have been drinking AT LEAST 64oz of just plain old water every day. The result? I have gone down from 155 to 150 in two days, as my system is able to clean itself out (meaning when I have a BM)... I *will* continue this revised regimen, as I do NOT wish to be in the 150's, but the high 130's.... Hugs, Katt Morales
Guest guest
I think a lot of it may have to do with the horrible winter we're having here. I know this doesn't explain the rest of the country, but everyone I've spoken to has major sun deprivation, the winter doldrums or just " can't take it anymore. " I'll be curious to see if we see this many posts about it when the warm weather hits, IF it ever hits! in NJ ************************** > I am seeing the same thing and wondering if it is because there are now so many of us further out from surgery. Guest guest
Fay, You may be right. My body has a mind of it's own. I read the posts and wonder how I'd cope, since I'm go good at saying no. I'm not gaining, but was really hungry all last week and I was just freaking about it. It's strange science, for sure. I'm at about a 10 pound bounce from my starvation look right after surgery almost 6 years ago and thankful. It's no moral or spiritual effort on my part, just luck like finding the surgery and my surgeon. Pouch is *not* transected, so I'm keeping my finger crossed the only surgery I have to do again is " elective " someday when the chin hits the chest again. in Austin RNY April 1998 315/190s -----Original Message----- From: fbayuk@... ============================== It could be simple as the fact that the people who are not gaining or having hunger problems, are not posting. Guest guest
This is the reason I haven't said much lately. My problem is not rebound. It's reminding myself to eat. With hubby gone, I don't cook much. It's just too much of a hassle for one person. So I live on nukable frozen entrees, cheese and Triscuit crackers. So, I haven't posted. I didn't think I had anything to contribute. Jac ============================== It could be simple as the fact that the people who are not gaining or having hunger problems, are not posting. Fay, I think you may be right. I haven't known what to say in all of this. I had my bounceback +15-20 pounds that I fought with for two years. It showed up right after my 2nd anniversary. This Fall my family started the South Beach diet together and those pounds FELL off. I could not be more amazed that the SB approach worked when nothing else had. It has been good for my whole family; we have all done well on it. But, I've already talked about all of that and bringing it up again seems - I don't know - rude? - when people are struggling. I can relate to all the ulcer discussions, though, as I think I'm dealing with a doozy (I'm guessing caused by the pain meds after my gall bladder surgery.) Have a scope scheduled at the end of this month to find out. I've been on Nexium 2x a day like some others. It's helped but it hasn't done enough. hugs, Ann
Guest guest
Jac, Just being here contributes and supports everyone else. There's nothing so not fun as looking forward to the board and finding it empty of posts. Or needing it and no one's there. Smiles, Vicki > This is the reason I haven't said much lately. Guest guest
I also think that it being this time of year and oh so cold (especially here in Iowa) that our bodies are holding on to anything that they can get ahold of to keep warm. I am trying to lose that last 5-7 pounds before I have my belt lipectomy on March 25th. I have started protein shakes ( 3 a day made with only water), 1 to 2 small meals of meat, walking 45 minutes a day, taking my vitaimins, drinking my water and the scale won't budge. I am thinking of trying protein shakes only next week to see if I can get it to move. Amy suggestions would be most appreciated. I have really enjoyed reading everyones posts and have shared the information I have learned with people in our support group in Ames. Guest guest
Ann, I had my gallbladder removed 12/23 and have had tummy pain ever since. At times the pain was so bad that I thought I was gonna pass out. When I talked to my son's WLS surgeon he told me to go get scoped that I prob had an ulcer (my surgeon retired last yr). So, I went in yesterday and had the scope. I DO NOT HAVE AN ULCER! I have a hiatal hernia. The good news is that my tummy is the size of a golf ball. The bad news is that that little golf ball is sitting on top of my diaphram. From what I have read so far, there is nothing they can do surgry wise since we have been " changed " inside. I will prob be on some kind of Nexium type med for the rest of my life. Now I just have to figure out how to eat to care for a hiatal hernia plus WLS surgery. Gee...what's a girl suppose to do! Guest guest
At 2 years post-op, I am not having hunger problems as long as I eat when hungry, which is usually every few hours and make the right choices. If I don't watch this, just like pre-op, if I let myself get tooo hungry, I make stupid choices. I have gained 4 pounds back from my low-not too concerned but know that if I don't want that 4 to turn into 10 or more, I need to cut back on some of my snacking. At least I know why I am gaining..what I am afraid of is those who do not snack or just snack on good stuff and are gaining right after the 2 year mark....that scares me. I see alot of people with weight gain issues posting, but as Fay said, perhaps it really isn't that much of a problem since those who are not gaining have nothing to post and those who are gaining are posting because they are seeking support/advice. What we need to do is a poll of those a few years out who have not gained.
