Guest guest
Pam, THanks so much for the info...I guess since I have been through alot it really scares me...how long has it been esince your surgery (you said you are still numb in your upper gums)..I had a leforte (upper jaw) done this time, and he also broke the lower jaw to helps releave me from applying pressure to the upper jaw so they will heal together..my botome jaw does not hurt at all...Im not bruise at all, and have never been...I just look at other people who have pictures on this site, and see there smile after there 2 week mark, and they look great..I have not seen 1 person who looked worse after there surgery and to me I still dont look good after 4 surgeries... Jill v123violet wrote: Hi Jill, I'm butting in on your mail to Clare....if you are only 2 weeks past your surgery don't panic about your smile. I couldn't smile after 2 weeks either. I'm almost 5 weeks now and I can smile without it hurting ... but I still haven't gotten my full smile back. You may have more swelling in your upper face than you realize, this will be a cause of your inability to smile properly, and ... I'm not sure exactly what you had done this time, but if you sutures inside your mouth then until the tissues heal and stretch out a bit, you won't have your regular smile either. So....don't panic about your smile, I'll bet each week you will notice it coming back a little bit more, and it'll be better than ever! Also....about the numbness....I have no feeling in my upper gums either .... I'm trying to be patient - you're not alone. Pam > > > > Hello everyone! Guest guest
Hi Jill, it's been 5 weeks for me. I had a lefort and also had my bottom jaw moved - I had a cross-bite, over-bite and open-bite ... lovely, huh? Why have you needed 4 different surgeries, if you don't mind me asking. Some people only have lower-jaw surgery and it's alot easier for them to smile after 2 weeks - the upper jaw causes alot more swelling and takes a looonnngg time to go down. I've met alot of people in my OS's office that have had upper surgery done and have rarely seen someone at 2 weeks that has a proper smile. I had a pallate expansion done 3 years ago, which is upper jaw, and my swelling lasted a long time. I didn't even realize how long I was swollen until I saw a picture of myself taken 3 months after the surgery - and I was still swollen, I just didn't realize it at the time. Supposedly your features will change for a long time as the swelling decreases. As far as my gums go....they are the least of my worries, since I had lower jaw surgery my lower lip and chin are numb, so if I can regain that feeling I will be extremely happy! Try to stay positive.....your face will change over the next couple of months......don't let yourself get down during this healing process, it does take a long time. Just think how you felt a week ago and give yourself a pat on the back that you've made it through another week. It's a slow process, isn't it? Take care, Pam > > > > > > Hello everyone!
