Guest guest
BTW, if you do have an oxalate problem, Vitamin C will make it worse, believe it or not! It converts to oxalates, continuing the cycle... > > Hi everyone, > > For about 10 days prior to doing a CDSA test, I went off of all the > meds and supplements I use to treat my still over-reactive gut: > Diflucan, Enhansa, Charcoal, Scdophilus being the primary ones. > I added in some extra Vitamin C to do more of a purge (thanks, Jodi > !) which I knew would keep things moving, though aggravating my GI tract > to no end. Why would oxylates dump hard white things? Mara
Guest guest
Hi, Sue, Hard white things could certainly be oxalate crystals. Please take a look at the juicing-method of introducing oxalobacter formigenes into the intestine that I posted last week. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/BTVC-SCD/message/53670 I appreciate that Dawn has been helped by a low-oxalate diet, but that would restrict your foods even more, so I suggest trying the juicing. , mom to
Guest guest
They are crystals. Here is a good link: http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/1894-the-role-of-oxalates-in-autism-an\ d-chronic-disorders.html Very interesting stuff! For a science geek like me, anyhow. > > > " 1) the tiny black flecks > > > > 2) the white flecks I've asked about before which look like > > crushed corn flakes----these are hard, were difficult to break with the > > sample spoon. Guest guest
, Owens, Head of the Autism Oxalate Project at ARI, just responded to this cabbage theory of Tamaro's. There is no science to back it up. The expert on oxalates (Dr. - the microbiologist who discovered this microbe 25 years ago and devoted his career to studying it) has said that the only way that Oxalobacter formigenes, an obligate anaerobe, would be found on cabbage would be through fecal contamination. Think about it, why would O. formigenes, a bacteria that eats oxalates, exist on a food with negligible oxalate content? It makes no sense. For more information see 's recent post on this at the Trying Low Oxalates group. > > Hi, Sue, > Hard white things could certainly be oxalate crystals. Guest guest
Please note that we are NOT going to get into an argument about oxalates or low oxalates. Dawn, I understand you have found it helpful, but Elaine was very cautious about combining diets because it makes for a very very restrictive one. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
What form of charcoal are you taking? Where do you get it? Hi ,    I take Activated Charcoal produced by a number of manufacturers, I think I have Nature's Way right now. I get most of my supplements from www.iherb.com  or www.vitacost.com    Both have great prices compared to local and a great variety. Iherb tends to have many more NOW brand products which are SCD legal and are one of the few brands of things that don't bother me.    The Charcoal seems to suck out all the junk which makes my gut so unhappy. My GI doctor (who believes yeast is real and prescribes SCD to all his patients) thinks that I have a nasty yeast infection and that as the yeast die, they produce acetylaldehyde, which is an alcohol and extremely irritating.    Whatever the reason, charcoal makes me a much happier camper than without. You have to be careful to have a window before and after eating or taking meds etc. I've heard 1, 1/2 hours, but I do a 2hour window on either side, e.g. take supps/meds, eat, wait 2 hours after I'm done eating, take charcoal, wait 2 hours, then eat again. What is the reason for the time window? It can absorb the medicine rendering it ineffective. Same way that it binds to the bad stuff and helpsit exit the body. Guest guest
Hi Mara, "Could be biofilms or parasites shedding. " It is my great hope that's what it is ! "What is the CDSA?" Comprehensive Diagnostic Stool Analysis, Genova Labs "What are you currently testing for?" Anything that'll show up :-) GI enzymes, nutritional components (different amino acids if I recall), potentially pathogenic bacteria and yeast, parasites, worms,---I'm probably forgetting a whole bunch of things. Website is: www.genovadiagnostics.com I am really hoping for an easily treatable parasite. I was talking with my DSIL and told her that and she said, "I can say that I've never prayed for that before, but if that''s what will help, that's what I'll pray for" This experience certainly has you talking about things and asking for things you never would have dreamed of ;-) Sue
