Guest guest
I am considering having my son see a naturopathic doctor who went into natural medicine after a 21 day stay in the hospital with severe UC. Before spending the money for the initial 1 1/2 hour session, I asked the doctor if he could share his method of treatment for UC. This is what he shared with me: " What has worked for me and several clients, usually looks like this: FIrst, use soothing and calming herbs to reduce the inflammation and improve digestion. When appropriate, and if needed, a heavy metal chelation. This is followed by a 6 to 10 week program called weed and feed, where we kill yeast 2 days a week, and provide encouragement to good bacteria five days a week. We finish with immune modulators to get the body to not attack itself. " He also gave me the name of a patient's mother in the same situation...same age son with UC...that he has treated. I am free to call her and here about his approach and the results. He personally has not any UC problems since he did a weed and feed in 1996. I am hoping that given my son's strict adherence to SCD for 4 months, he would respond well and quickly to this type of treatment. He wants to go out of town in December on a hunting trip with his older brother and of course wants to be strong enough and feel well enough to do so. (He really needs to have some fun in his life at this point!) He did LDN for two weeks and felt so badly that he stopped it. I think he has a yeast issue and we are in the middle of working with our family dr. regarding having an OAT performed. Where LDN would/could play into this I don't know. I'm trying to decide which path to take at this point: 1) Continue to play hit or miss on our own by staying on SCD, getting the OAT and finding out how to treat the yeast, then try LDN again or, 2) stay on SCD with the naturopathic oversight and guidance. I would love to hear what seasoned UC sufferers on SCD think of this doctor's approach and any advice they might have regarding the two paths!
