Guest guest
I'm 6-days post-op from both upper and lower, and swelling is gradually reducing. I think I've developed an infection of some kind in my mouth. One one side of my lower jaw, everything looks pretty much clean, but on the other side, the suture site is covered with what i can best describe as what looks like a thick white spider web...strands of white stuff that look like bits of string. I also have whitish patches on the insides of my cheeks and lips. Both the stringy stuff and patches I can scrape away with a Q-tip. In the first 2 or 3 days post-surgery, i was only getting in 2 doses of penicillin / day instead of the prescribed 4, and was not very good about rinsing with salt water (because I didn't know that I should be doing that). So has anyone else experienced similar stuff?...does this indeed sound like an infection? More importantly, just what is the danger of such an infection? I remember my OS telling me that some people get infections, and he just switches them to a different antibiotic which clears it right up...I'm seeing him tomorrow, so I'll get the official diagnosis then. Standard Caveat: I know the proper answer to any question is 'ask your OS, he knows best', and I will definitely ask him at my next follow-up appt. but the reason I keep posting questions here is that I feel like my OS is often dismissive of my concerned, and doesn't always answer my questions as fully and satisfactorily as I wish he would, and some unbiased feedback from fellow sufferers is always good.
