Hi Jeff,

I was wired shut for 4 weeks. Sorry you have to go 6 weeks. Getting

the wires off doesn't hurt. But since you haven't opened your mouth

and used those muscles for 6 weeks they will be weak. I felt like my

lower jaw would just fall off. Of course it didn't :).

I would maybe take some Advil before your appointment so that it is

working by the time you are done. Everything felt sore, weak and

stiff. And even though you will want to eat, your doc may keep you on

a no-chew or soft diet for a couple more weeks. Anything, even soft,

is better then liquid only.

You will do fine, just be patient, it will take a while to get back to

normal function.

Jeff,

I also had surgery July 14th. My upper was broken in three places and

shifted forward 11mm while my lower was broken and shifted back 11cm.

Obviously it was a very serious procedure. I was only wired shut for 2

and a half weeks. They were removed this past Monday and the splint

will be removed this coming Monday. It hurt when they first clipped

the wires but that went away pretty quickly. BUT, trying to open my

mouth again was hell. It still is very difficult to open. I guess it

just takes time but when your wires are removed it will be a big step

forward. It's so much easier to drink. Good luck!
