Guest guest
, This is absolutely the best $2,000,000,000 question. I am in the process of finding out what MY doctors and dentists say together on this very question. I recently had 5 teeth pulled. One more is getting close to the need to be pulled. Interestingly enough, they are opposite each other. My bottom teeth, both 2nd to last molars gone, and then both bottom 1st molars. Then both last molars on top. That in itself seems kinda strange to me. Many more are in need of work but these are the ones that have broken off. Anyway, I believe this is a direct result of my surgery in many ways. I spoke in great detail with my dentist and she suggested that we submit to the medical insurance to pay for my work. So right this very minute my insurance, dentist, family doctor and my gastro/nutritionalist are all on the case. I also had to get the opinion of their dentist. He was a real hack. Very rude and uncompassionate man but had 30 years experience in teeth alone. The jury is still out on this. It has been going on since before Christmas. Hopefully, I can give you their answer before I go back to Florida. I hope I'll have my prosthesis piece before I go back. We moved our date for this reason alone. Feb 25th is the day. If I don't have THEIR answer to your question before then, I guess we can keep wondering huh? I have told my story before. There can be so many factors involved in the health of our teeth. I'm 38 right now. Had perfect teeth at age 26, had surgery at 27 and by 5 yrs PO began having serious (my dentist says my teeth really aren't as bad as she has seen) problems with my teeth. My teeth have cracked and broken, my gum lines have deteriorated and my enable is wearing thin. My father has had the problem with broken teeth but 20 yrs later than me. My sister who is 17mos. younger has had root canals (3) but her teeth are otherwise in good health. Genetics plays a big part in our teeth. No one in my family has had the combined problems. They are telling me that my mouth is not dry though I take Zoloft. You know my nutrient level had declined. I think in the big picture every part of me was effected. One goes hand in hand with the other. My D levels were not even measurable. This must say something about my teeth. I am getting back on top, but the damage is done. I haven't really given you an answer but am working on it...lol. Dawn
Guest guest
For the better part of the past two and a half years, I have been in a dentist chair at least 4-5 times a month. Crowns, caps, posts, root canals, cavities, etc. Never had this kind of problem with my teeth prior to wls. Dentist told me that the enamel is almost completely off my teeth. I'm very diligent about brushing and flossing and still have this problem. Need a break from the dentist for a few months and am taking it. Told Tim that probably by the time I'm 45 I'm going to have to have them all pulled and get false teeth in. At this point it is preferable. Can't stand the damn dentist anymore. Can deal with most crap you throw my way, but the teeth thing is a killer. Regina
Guest guest
Don't know if this relates or not......... When my daughter was about 6 we were at the dentist and they told me she had " 10 " cavities in 2 of her back teeth. I was mortified and mad. Her other 3 siblings have never had a single cavity between them. My daughter brushes and eats the same stuff as her siblings, whtat's the deal?? She said that as far as cavities and kids go there can be NO REASON AT ALL sometimes. She said that the majority of kids " don't " get cavities......but that the ones who do gets TONS of them!! Maybe it is a freak kinda thing......either you get good ones or you don't (of course excluding other things like meds and stuff)...... P. Guest guest
Are you perhaps using a stiff toothbrush? My dentist told me that I should use a soft to medium toothbrush, as the stiff ones can wear the enamel down. --- 365/194/160 Lap RnY, Distal - Dr. s Vanderbilt University Hospital Surgery date June 3, 2002 ----- Original Message ----- > For the better part of the past two and a half years, I have been in a > dentist chair at least 4-5 times a month. Guest guest
Regina, I am with you 200% on this. I took a break too. I was getting so much work done and it was a constant. It was a vicious cycle. I could not stay on top of the problems or the cost, even with insurance. I cringe even thinking about it. I decided to let the dang things fall out! Don't go this route. It is much too painful. I went in and told them anything with a problem...PULL IT OUT! I am so tired of this. Of course they only pulled the worst ones. Telling me that I need some more root canals as well. Screw that! (Excuse the language.) The insurance dentist said really we only need 10 teeth in our mouths to be able to eat. Try getting all your food chewed the way we need to with only one tooth area that they come together. Then of course, the teeth remaining go faster because they are getting so much use. It's an ongoing process as I still have much work to be done. I can't even get new filings to stay in more than a month especially white. I don't mind silver but not near the front. And I too, have always brushed, flossed dailey and used floride. I never, ever had problems prior to the surgery. I do not blame my surgery as I would not change it. I blame myself for not being more educated much, much earlier! Dawn
