Madison is Dr. H's most complexed patient metabolic wise ( or so she claims)

so I amy be able to shine some light on this for you. First off Ian

shouldn't go below 80 without concern not 70. 80 usually marks the line for

complete

drop. Madison is insulin resistant which sounds just like Ian. This means

once his blood sugars drop they WILL rebound for sure. Maddy for example gets

very fresh and wild when her sugar drops. Then it will rebound. so she can go

from 20 to 500 in an hour. This is why it's important to not allow Ian to go

below 80 if you can help it and yes I know thats easier said then done LOL.

However it's easier to avoid a drop if you catch it by 80. Ian has a Gtube

right? Well I find it easier to just put a few ounces of juice through the tube

as soon as she begines to drop instead of fighting with food. This way his

sugar will rise while you argue with him to eat a few carbs. the Juice will

rise it right away but won't keep it there he needs to follow up with a carb.

so

after doin the juice offer him carbs by mouth. If he refuses all food you

won't stress too much cause atleast you were able to get his sugar up

temperarly with the G tube.

Maddy's exact diagnosis is Hypoglycemia with stress induced hyperglycemia.

This means she usually drops however stress ( physical or emotional ) to the

body will cause a sever rise. Be aware though the rise doesn't mean it will

last they may rebound AGAIN and drop back to where they were or lower. This is

why I say use the tube. Trust me you will be less stressed. Maddy can't handle

tube feedings this is why she has the port but she can handle an ounce or

two so i'm sure Ian will be able to handle a little too. Please do feel free to

call me anytime you are concerned this is a subject I know well. LOL.

Madison usually has her sugar checked 3 x a day but if it's off we do it every

3

hours. Don't worry he'll get used to it it's you who won't. Also don't worry

about letting him Nap when his body is relaxed it may return to it's norm. You

can always check sugar when he's sleeping.
