Easy for us to say, but US$5.00 is about ¥40 (the

¥ standing for Chinese Yuan, not Japanese Yen),

and I was told that when you compare standards of

living, salaries, etc., their prices in Yuan

cause about the same " pain " to the pocketbook as

our prices in dollars do to us. So, in other

words, for a native Chinese, the meal would be

the equivalent of our spending more than $40.
