Guest guest
I think the information I got from my sister last night in regards to shoes will benefit many of you. Man she's the person to ask about shoes!! OK Beth Believe it or not, there are NO children shoe stores in all of Durham region. There use to be one, but they went out of business. The only one my sister goes to is Kiddie Kobler. It's in Fairview Mall (Don Mills and the 404). She said there is also one in Markville Centre but she's never been to that one. She loves the one at Fairview because they measure the feet so perfectly and really the staff know what they are talking about. My sister said the best brand of shoe is Stride Rite. These shoes are made of soft leather, have excellent ankle support but at the same time the soles are flexible. Apparently that is key in a shoe---the sole must be flexible. As I said, this girl knows what she is talking about. I had no clue. She also said that there is a store called Panda Shoes at Markville but she found them horrible. They measured her daughter's foot wrong and she was stuck with a pair of shoes that were expensive but slid off her foot. The Stride Rite shoes are expensive; $60.00 to $70.00 but she said it's well worth it. Besides our RSS kids feet (and the rest of the body) don't grow often so you will get your moneys worth!! OK I have to run to work. Hope that helps! Debby
Guest guest
Thank you so much for tracking this down. I actually have been in touch with Panda shoes and they didn't have anything in Sydney's size. I also have contacted the Stride Rite company directly because the stores in Ontario don't carry a walking shoe below a size 3 but no luck - they only make " crawling shoes " below a size one and they don't have any ankle support. I will definately try the Kiddie Kobler store so thanks for that tip. I found out that our endo will be Dr. Wherrett at Sick Kids. Have you heard of her? Also, my insurance company is also Great West Life so I am sure I will have lots of questions about coverage once we get to that stage. Thanks again for getting all of this information for me, I really appreciate it. I may not check the site everyday (3 kids 3 and under and working!!) but I will be checking in a few times a week. You will have to let me know where you teach. I am frequently in schools in Toronto for work so I know most of them! Guest guest
Hi Beth Don't worry about how often you check into the list, we are always around!! I wonder if Kiddie Kobbler would have shoes then if Stride Rite doesn't go to size 1. You should probably just get out the phone book and call their store in Fairview Mall. I am in a school in Scarborough. It's elementary and I teach special ed. It's called St. 's. What do you do that brings you into schools? I think that is awesome we three have more in common. Charlene is an English teacher. I have never heard of that endo nor have I seen a sign for her posted with the other endo names. Hold on let me get one of Adam's booking cards. Oh yeh, geez what do you know? Her name is right under his. Hmm!! Well I don't know a thing about her but if you find she doesn't know enough, you can always ask her to talk to Dr. Daneman!! At least they are in the same area. Our next time down at Sick Kids will be June, I think it's June 6th. Hey won't it be fun that we can email and say " going to be at Sick kids on June 6th anyone else going?? " These " Americans " on here are always saying " anyone going to be at Dr. H's on such and such a date? " and I could never participate. Now I can do it too!!! LOL And how great that you have the same insurance as me. Things should go along quite well. Talk to you soon Debby Beth: shoes I think the information I got from my sister last night in regards to shoes will benefit many of you. Man she's the person to ask about shoes!!
