Guest guest
I thought this was quite useful and well-written, though I wonder how well people in those three-month programs will be doing in three years. Still, it's a step in the right direction. From the article, http://tinyurl.com/xanq: " As for surgical procedures -- the most radical treatment approach to obesity -- the guidelines note that they " can promote substantial weight loss, " ranging from about 20 to 300 pounds or more. But the procedures are very expensive, costing about $20,000 and up, and data from randomized controlled trials are limited, the guidelines note. " While overall death rates for various gastric surgical procedures are low -- less than 1 percent overall -- the guidelines note that complications are " more common " than mortality. About one in four people who undergo surgery for obesity need a follow-up surgical procedure within three to five years, the guidelines note, while wound infections plague 8 to 20 percent of people who undergo gastric bypass surgery. " I wonder if they are considering plastics in the 25% that need further surgery within 3 to 5 years, or if it's JUST revisions. Anyone know?
