Hello Everyone,

I have been in braces for about 18 mos. I had my first consult with a oral

surgeon right before I got my braces on and I haven't seen him since. My OD

keeps saying I am almost there and then I can go in and see the oral surgeon

again. During my consult the OS told me that I would have to have upper and

lower, have my upper jaw widened and a chin lift. I already had this

pre-approved by my insurance company. I keeping asking my orthodontist when is

this going to happen and he never really has an answer for me. But here are my

questions if anyone is able to answer them that would be great because it would

put me at some ease.

1. How long (on average) do you have to wear braces after the surgery?

2. How often do you have to go back for check-ups after the surgery?

3. Do they leave your braces on during the surgery?

4. How are you wired, How do you eat or throw up for that matter?

Thanks

I was in braces for 10 months before my surgery and I will have my brace in for

another five months.

I was in hospital for ten days after my surgery and once I was home I went for

check up's 1-2 times a week.

Braces are left on during surgery.

Hi -

I had my braces for 3 years prior to surgery. They left the braces on

for the surgery and I am expecting another year after. The OD can't

do anything for 3 months after surgery as things are still healing.

Then he needs to make final adjustments. I saw my OS 1 week, 3 weeks

and 7 weeks after surgery.

I was banded, not wired. After 2 weeks I was able to take the bands

out to eat. Still only very soft foods for 3 months. It is a bit of

a pain. I am 4 weeks post-op and have lost 15 pounds. I am trying

to have a milkshake a day.

Hi

What does banded mean? What kind of surgery did you have done?
