Guest guest
Christy, I can't help you in the " previous knowledge " department, but I can understand your POV. My surgery is scheduled for October 20th. I know that I need and want the surgery, but I can't help but become more terrified as I get closer to the date. My journey has gone on for almost 4 years now, so you would think that I would have had enough time to adjust, but I don't think that you ever do. Just know that I will be rooting for you and a great recovery for you. Nay > Hi everyone, > I've been on and off the site for a while now; thanks to everyone for > all your helpful posts! Guest guest
Christy, I too am starting to freak out. My surgery is Nov. 2nd and just last night I had a bad anxiety attack and couldn't sleep. I was almost to the point of calling my OS this morning and cancelling, but I need this surgery to alleviate my sleep apnea and just coming back to this site this morning to read everyone's postings has helped me calm down. This is a fantastic site to get info and support. There is a lot of good information here and the people are wonderful!! I wish you all the best, I'm sure you'll do fine. Guest guest
Hi Christy, That happened to me too, despite all of my info from research. It's when you finally face the fact that it's close at hand. For me, what helped was talking about it to my surgeon/ortho/general physician. The former two assured me that, yes, this surgery was necessary. The latter assured me that my worry was normal, that it wasn't incapacitating, and that I didn't have to go through the surgery if I didn't want to (not life-threatening). She's also the one that gave me the very precious advice: " Don't worry until you have something to worry about " . After that, I focused on preparing for post-op recovery: talking it over with my husband (showing him some photos to be prepared), getting the groceries stocked up, making sure my house was clean, doing any work that needed to be done, training someone at work to help out with my job while I was off. I found a quiet calm about one week before the surgery. Hope you do too! P.S. - if you've ever practiced meditation, it is a powerful tool for this sort of thing. I practice daily.
