Mark - Congratulations! - you made it thru your surgery and it

sounds like it went smoothly. I bet you are relieved to be done with

that; now it's on to the recovery segment. Take care of yourself and

get lots of rest. Pleez post the details of your surgery when you

are feeling stronger - I'm going thru the same procedures next

summer and would love to hear about your experiences. I'm sending

warm healing thoughts your way. ~~~~ Diane (Idaho)

Hello everyone,

It is true that I'm relieved that the surgery is over (conducted

on 9/29/05) and now I'm focusing on recovery. The only pains I have

are from my chin. There's some major discomfort because of the

tension that binds my upper and lower teeth and I usually experience

that when trying to lay down and rest.

What medications am I taking? Penicillin to prevent infection,

Nasonex and a saline spray to clear up my sinuses, Dimetapp to ease

congestion and an oral rinse to cleanse my mouth. I also brush my

teeth five times a day, as difficult as it may be. Notice that I am

taking no pain medications.

What do I drink? Ensure, Gatorade, water and chicken broth for

now. I don't feel confident enough yet to have anything with

consistency. Breathing isn't easy enough that I can do it.

I still can't talk effectively because I'm swollen and I can

hardly get air through my teeth. I tried to read a book aloud

yesterday and it wasn't working because froth would just bubble out

of my lips. I also experienced a sharp pain for a split second on the

right side of my chin.

All in all, it's not complete hell. I can still read my books,

watch T.V. and work on the computer. I have a follow-up appointment

with my doctor on Thursday and I hope he has good things to say. (I

also hope this swelling goes down considerably so I won't frighten

too many children and I can talk!)
