Guest guest
Hi Rene I can't find the original post where you asked me what my symptons pre-op were but i didn't want you to think that I'd ignored your question so here goes: Pre-surgery I suffered from: 1) Weekly sometimes daily headaches that could last anywhere from 30 minutes to a whole day. The headaches would just take possession of my whole head, it felt like someone had crashed a sledge-hammer against my skull. I started having these headaches probably when I was about 16 but they were minor. Over the last 3 years (I'm now 27) they got increasingly worse, especially when I was in periods of stress at work or school. 2) The sides of my face always felt strained and my chin often felt sore. I later found out this was from my muscles straining to compensate for my weak chin. 3) I think the last time I managed to bite into a sandwhich was when I was 17, the last time I had braces on for prior to this last time around pre-surgery. In fact I couldn't bite into pizza or anything really without looking like a dog gnawing at its food. I ate almost all my food by cutting it up into little pieces and then shoving it in the back of my mouth. 4) I was chewing food only on my left hand side of the mouth because my teeth on the right made no contact and my jaw joint got increasingly sore whenever I did try to chew there. 5) My diet wasn't always complete because there were foods I eliminated because they just hurt too much to eat or were too tiresome to chew. 6) I have been a chronic mouth breather ever since I was about 5 years old. My doctors explained to me that this was due to how my jaw had formed which was restricting my breathing passages 7) My open bite was getting worse by the minute. At 17 when I took braces off for the 3rd time my open bit had been fixed completely. 9 years later it was back at 7mm and getting worse. My smile was also getting gummier and gummier. All of the above issues have been resolved as a result of surgery and I am thrilled to no end especially about the headache factor. That for me was the biggest factor in finally deciding to go through with the surgery and get braces put on for a fourth time! Hope this helps and don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions. Take care, Sara
Guest guest
This does help a lot. I am also a chronic mouth breather and I have certain foods that I will not eat in front of others due to the even heavier breathing when I try to eat them (not attractive). I have noticed lately that when I eat, I don't really chew. I may give it a couple of chews but swallowing mostly whole. This can't be good for the digestion????? I guess I have been doing it for so long, I didn't notice. I'm with you on the headaches, and will be happy if this surgery does nothing but cure them. I also have an occasional migraine, and I think these are worse. There are mornings (after a night of heavily grinding my teeth) that I wake up with a swollen jaw and the worst headache. I am happy this has worked for you Cross your fingers for me.
