Guest guest
What is up with the wide nose? I thought I was the only one until I kept reading. My nose is really wide. Not turned up or anything just wide. I hope it is the swelling. I'm only 17 days post-op. Please let it be the swelling!!!!!!!!
Guest guest
For what it is worth.... When I underwent surgery, I had a long upper jaw (not extremely), and short lower jaw, thus a marvelous overbite and assymetry all over the place.... upper jaw right of midline, lower jaw left of midline, and chin further left of lowerjaw.... Yikes, huh?!?! AND I inherited a marvelous nose: very large and oh so prominent on my face, complete with a bony bend near the bridge of my nose- a characteristically Jewish nose according to my Jewish boyfriend, and since my upper jaw was to the right of my midline, so also was my nose!!! On 3/9/05, I had Upper- palatal split to widen, jaw moved up and rotated to correct the assymetry and one wisdom tooth removed, Lower- jaw extended out and rotated to correct assymetry, and genio- chin further out out and rotated to correct assymetry with a bone graft. When I asked, my surgeon said swelling might have a slight and temporary affect on my nose. Ultimately it did not. I never noticed any difference in my nose. It is not wider, longer, shorter, turned up, Nothing. And it is still right of my midline! I've always been accused of being a little " crooked " ha ha. My surgeon definitely EYED my nose with interest and would have been glad to make some changes.... But I made it very clear that my boyfriend was appropriately fond of my nose the way it is! It's supposedly my defining character piece, or something like that. So, even with the wider, rearranged upper jaw, my nose is unchanged. The happy result is that I appear to have had a nose job because the proportions of my face are so improved. Now that I have a lower jaw and chin, my nose seems more proportional in size and not so damned LARGE! I nose job without a nose job. Worked for me! If anyone is recently out of surgery, I would not yet panic about your nose. Definitely discuss it with your surgeon, though. I had and still have a bit of residual swelling... for me it is in my chin because so much work was done there. The swelling, particularly internally can take a long, long time to finally reduce. Each of us is unique in our swelling and bruising.... That said, when I was freaking out prior to my surgery with 500 reservations and questions and concerns, I read on this board about individuals with permanently changed- wider noses as a " side effect " of the surgery. It IS possible, but also is not the rule. Ask your surgeon, each knows his own work best. My surgeon was confident that my nose would be unaffected in my outcome (especially since I wouldn't let him touch it!). Lastly, keep in mind that we all have different facial dynamics that they are working with when they undertake the surgery on each of us. Ok, I guess I had a lot of thoughts about wide noses. I hope this is helpful. And I am sorry to those who have had effects from their surgery that they aren't happy with- my nose is ok, but now my bite seems canted and of course inside I am freaking out about that! It's always SOMETHING! Take care and good luck, Katja
