Guest guest
Dennis, I'm very sorry to hear you are in pain. I'm haven't had my surgery yet, so I can't offer a lot of advice. Have you tried ice? They say around this time is the most difficult with the swelling and the drugs beginning to wear off. I too hope that soon you are looking back on this with a healthy and happy recovery. I know it must be tough. Try to take it step by step and know each hour you're closer to recovery! Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery. Well here it is night time and I feel totaly losey. I really wish I had more numbness and not so much pain. I have a high pain tolerance but this is for the birds. I hope in 4 months from now I can say this was all worth it. My lower jaw doesn't seem to bother me as much as the top. And the splint sucks to. Can't seem to swallow without chocking. Anyway I guess I just needed to whine a little Dennis~
Guest guest
Dennis! Whine all you want! In fact, I'll stick my head up towards the moon and howl a couple times with you! It can really suck, huh?! I was just going to write to you that I was glad you were out of surgery safely and everything is going pretty well for you, and that your posts sound like you're slowly but surely getting there.... Anyway, night can be hard. I'm sorry you're feeling so lousy.... pain isn't fun at all. If your pain meds aren't doing their job adequately and you're taking them as prescribed, then please call your surgeon- tonight or tomorrow depending on how bad it is right now. I learned that the hard way... I was given incorrect discharge instructions from the hospital by the resident and wasn't taking enough anti- inflammatory medication, and I had a lot of numbness and still was hurting. I called and my surgeon straightened everything around for me.... that made a huge difference, so please please please communicate with your surgeon that you are uncomfortable and in pain! He's there to help you through this recovery period too. He can't change something if he doesn't know something isn't working. You will be glad you aren't numb- hard to believe now- especially when you kiss your wife and start eating and CAN feel that you have food all over your face and mouth instead of being oblivious! That was an attempt to cheer you up. Pathetique, huh?? Less numbness now, however miserable, is less to recover later and that is the best. Everyday will get better. You are on the otherside and that frankly is just freakin' exciting!! It's all downhill from here! These weeks will pass and you'll be up and running. For the pain, I don't know how much this will help you, but I found that posting at this site and engrossing movies (not just TV) was beyond helpful in distracting myself from ME and my pain and discomfort. I would forget about me and that I was only 5 or however many days out of surgery. I found those activities completely absorbing which helped lessen my discomfort and helped the time pass. Night sucks though because everyone is asleep.... I remember hating that there was no activity on this board at night so then I'd try writing emails. I think right after my surgery is when I started getting so damned long- winded in my posts/emails!! At least I've distracted your attention for half a minute!! I'll be around if you are up to it if you want to post back tonight. If not, I hope you start feeling better ultra soon. Call your surgeon!!!! please!! I was oh so kindly chastized by my surgeon for not calling sooner if I was in so much pain. So, learn from my mistake and Call!!! I'm glad you made it out of surgery safely and are recovering, albeit painfully . Keep in touch and keep us all posted on how you are doing. We're all thinking about you and cheering you on.... I know how you feel cuz I ben thar and it shore eez ruff! (I think the late hour is affecting me too..... Take good care, Dennis. Katja > Well here it is night time and I feel totaly losey. Guest guest
Dennis, Hang on there. Don't give up. Everything you've done will worth it at the end. Believe me. It is also easy for me to choke myself when I drink as well. Don't worry. You will get through all this pain soon. Irene > Well here it is night time and I feel totaly losey. Guest guest
Hi Dennis, Sorry you are having a bad day. I can imagine that having sensation right away would not be as wonderful as it might initially sound. Although it is encouraging to know you won't have to go through all the tingly and sharp stabs of sensation returning, this early sensation just post op is probably little comfort. I haven't had jaw surgery yet, but I have had lots of other surgical procedures. And at about the end of the first week, I always get a little overwhelmed by my recovery. It is a really really common side effect of anesthesia for many people. I makes you question your decision even when you are pleased with your result. Maybe some of what you are experiencing is this. But in any event, this is the exact right place to share how you feel about it! Venting is always right here! I hope it eases up for you soon. Guest guest
Hi Dennis, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. It helps to know that this is a short-term problem. Please do call your surgeon and let him/her know about it. If the pain is not being handled by the current meds, perhaps he/she can give you something else. I'm not sure how long ago you had your surgery, but the choking feeling is probably related to all the swelling from having surgery. Mention this to your surgeon too. Don't be afraid to call your surgeon and ask questions or let them know you're having problems. That's what they're there for, so you don't have to second-guess things or suffer needlessly. Hope you get some relief soon. > Well here it is night time and I feel totaly losey. I really wish I > had more numbness and not so much pain. Guest guest
Dennis, Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time. I had the choking problem too, I couldn't drink anything with out choking. My surgeon said that it was probably due to the new position of the jaw and the breathing tube being in for so long. I had to " learn " how to swallow again but I had this problem the moment I woke up from surgery. After a few days and some help from the speech therapist and physio I was ok. Hope things improve for you soon. --------------------------------- --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
I would wish for the numbness too. You made me laugh. I'm sorry that you are feeling so crappy. I hope all goes better soon. ~ Rene > Well here it is night time and I feel totaly losey. I really wish I > had more numbness and not so much pain.
