Guest guest
well I had my surgery on the 19th, I thought things were good until my doctor came to visit me the next morning in the hospital. I had surgery at 1200pm, everything went fine I thought, got there about 1100am, put on my gown and then proceeded to get my IV, next thing I know im waking up in the recovery room. when I awoke my surgeon asked me if I would like to go home, I declined becuase I felt like crap and decided to stay overnight in the hospital. My surgeon said everything went great and he would come and check on me in the morning to see how I was doing, I had a very bad crossbite and only had lower jaw done, I also had real bad problems with sleep apnea and chewing and thought this would help alot as well as fix my crooked chin and bite. the next morning the surgeon came in and wanted to have a look at me....I dont think i was completely banded but I know I had some bands on. I opened up and saw a look of concern on his face and he said my left side was banged up a little and didnt look right and said possibly a plate came loose. when I looked in the mirror my right side looked completely aligned but my left side had a very large gap in it...which i didnt think was right. My surgeon told me to relax, he said every one of these he has done only like 2 times out of over a hundred did the person have to go back in for more work, He said to come see hime when i get out as soon as I can. Well I went yesterday and got an ex-ray done and I remember asking him what he thought and he seemed to beat around the bush and said something like " it didnt look too bad " . He said when he performed the surgery when he was done things looked different and he was concerned whether a plate moved or not....he said if I have to get it fixed to relax, the hard part is over with and it wouldnt be too bad. He banded me up tight as hell and im suppose to come back in 4 days and he is gonna take everything off and look at my bite, he said mabye its just swelling and mabye things will be OK. I am worried to death about this, I dont mind going through this surgery but I want things to be right. What happens if I have to get this fixed? will they do it right away? I dont want to heal up and then have to get this done again!! when i look in the mirror with the bands on I can see a gap in my left side and I think that is what he is refering too, he is supposedly one of the best and my orthodontist highly recomended him. I just dont know whats going on...If there is a problem I would like to get it corrected as soon as possible, I am off work right now and didnt plan on taking off over 2 weeks, and what about if I have to go back in the hospital, will I have to get re certified with my insurance company. Im sorry about the long post, im all alone here and nervous and would like to hear from some people.
Guest guest
Hello, I read your concern and I had a similar problem then more added on..I had upper jaw surgery over a year ago, next day (like you) the surgeon said he thought he didnt get my bite right due to me having strong jaw muscles..we waited about a week later, and things never got right so I had to go back into surgery 2 weeks after #1 surgery..now my doctor didnt charge me on his part , but the hosp just filed with with insurance and there was no problem..however since then I have had 2 more surgerys due to broken plates..I am now a little over 2 weeks post op on surgery #4 and a new surgeon...so far things are good, he wired me shut this surgery so I would not apply pressure to upper jaw and risk plates breaking again...if you have a good surgeon, rely on him to fix you, however dont make the same mistake I did let the first surgeon do more than 2 surgeries on me...after #3 I found the head oral surgeon (Harvard grad) and trains interns from different hospital and colleges...he is the head of oral surgery at Emory University in Atlanta...so far so good post op except one of the plates have bent upward and you can see a know beside the right side of my nose under my right eye...we will wait 3 months then he will make a small incision in my upper gums under sedation in the OR suite he has in the office and bend it back down..I really trust this doctor...If you start to have any concern that this doctor may not be doing something right..PLEASE get other opinions... I hope everything turns out good for you...rest your nerves and take it one day at a time or this will over come you, like it did me the first three surgerys..this one #4 was better, I knew what to expect, and had new surgeon, even though I have encoutered a small problem I know it can be easily fixed...the last surgeries I had chronic infections, fistulas on my gums, and cadiver bone coming from my gums along with broken plates, and face that just didnt look normal anymore..I went from a pretty girl(about a 9 scale ) to 6 or 7)..thats my judgement ...so from pretty to worse..now things are looking better....I dont thing I was ever the most prettiest babe out there but I never had problems with men looking at me or women making nice comments toward me...I have just put my faith in god and pray he will help make it right this time....good luck and take care of your self...DONT WORRY TO MUCH! Guest guest
Hello again, Be honest with your surgeon about your time off, and need to repeat surgery..My first 3 surgeries I worked as a school nurse and they school and my nurse boss, and principal wasnt too happy that I had to have all these surgeries in one school season. nursing jobs are a dime a dozen, so when they rode me one day and said they didnt feel like I prepared them, I gave them written permission to contact my surgeon for info, I kept all correspodence email between me and my employer..I just said Im done with this , I dont need this stress, this is my health I felt a new job in one day (Home health Nurse) and am much happy with it..and make 3 times the money...this job has been supportive of this surgery, they have contacted me to check on me, where the other job never called to check on me...things happen for a reason..If you are that nervous have your surgeon prescribe you something for anxiety, too much stress will prolong healing, but def talk to him about your concern and feeling, and anxiety.. good luck and keep me posted Jill nky_guy77 wrote: > well I had my surgery on the 19th, I thought things were good until > my doctor came to visit me the next morning in the hospital. > > I had surgery at 1200pm, everything went fine I thought, got there > about 1100am, put on my gown and then proceeded to get my IV, next > thing I know im waking up in the recovery room. > > when I awoke my surgeon asked me if I would like to go home, I > declined becuase I felt like crap and decided to stay overnight in > the hospital.
