Answer re posture and scoliosis

Hello -

In answer to the mom who just asked if sitting hunched over can cause

scoliosis, the answer would be " kyphosis " , not scoliosis, which is the

curving of the spine forward (like hunchback). However.... unless the

child had a genetic predisposition to that, I am guessing most

physicians would say that many kids sit hunched over, and that after

40+ years of doing this, yes, as an elderly position you may see some

forward movement of the shoulders.... But she should take her child

to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon should she have any concerns

whatsoever.

I've been doing research on PubMed the last hour or so. I found

your answer. It said that posture does NOT impact scoliosis,

although it can cause an increase in pain and muscle stuff....
