Guest guest
Hi Connie, I'm so sorry you had such a rough time of it with the infection and everything! I really hope this latest bout of numbness is unrelated. That is just awesome that your assymetry has been corrected.... perfectly aligned midlines!?!? I'm completely jealous! Mine are still being worked on- and oh so diligently I might add. My surgeon mentioned to me something prior to my surgery about people generally having one side of their face that is fuller than the other, that remains with you even after the surgery. I have that too... I had a LOT of assymetry prior to surgery like you- dentally and skeletally. I still have some due to other factors (read: Nose!!!) But I'm not having that " fixed " . My nose and I are comfortable with each other after these many long years. I'm surprised that you don't see much difference.... sometimes the change is so subtle though... Have others noticed?? I've had a lot of people not discern my changes at all, when for me they seem like significant changes (Improvements). I too am hoping for relief from migraines. So far, I am still getting them... so we'll see. My bite isn't right on yet, so I am still grinding and clenching, so that may be related ( I hope!). We'll have to see how it comes out in the end I guess. I hope your migraines and TMJ pain are on permanent sabbatical (sp?)!!! How is your eating coming along? At what point in your diet does your surgeon have you? I am almost 6 months post op and am still introducing new foods. All the time I am thinking, " I haven't had this since prior to my surgery,or I wasn't really able to eat this before, WOW! " And of course that is an excuse to eating horribly fattening and dilectible foods. As if anyone needs such an excuse as it is! I'm trying to curb my eating! Besides the numbness possibly related to the infection site, do you have any other numbness or were you fortunate enough to escape?! About when Jane moved is the last I remember hearing from her too. I don't know! Sounds like you took a break for a while too! Feeding 225 people for a wedding sounds daunting!!! How'd it go?! I wasn't posting about a month prior to my trip and then afterwards... I left my job right before going and had 100 medical loose ends to take care of before my medical insurance was switching, let alone just getting ready for the trip (working fulltime until the day before my plane departed of course didn't help my cause!). When I got back, I spent another forever figuring out my health care and all sorts of other administrative tediousness for myself. Just lately have I had more time to check in here again.... Thank you for asking- I completely enjoyed my time in Russia and had a wonderful time! I think it was one of my best trips and favorite places. I hope to return someday! I am in basic rubber bands right now- one from lower left molar to upper left K-9. With so much assymetry, my teeth were not and still are not perfectly aligned post surgery.... One side lines up well, on the other side, the teeth didn't touch at all and then they were meeting head to head, so I have the bands to shift all of the teeth over by half a tooth. They are getting there very very slowly! But now there are issues with my bite being canted now due to healing issues I had after surgery... I am more than anxious to get that fixed (ultra frown). Otherwise, I am doing pretty well.... progress is slow but steady. I still have numbness and altered sensation in various places but it continues to get better. I notice the difference more in a week or month comparison than day to day. My opening is better and my chewing facility continues to improve. Eating better, or rather being able to eat and chew at all is WONDERFUL!!! My days of swallowing rice whole for example are fading away. I am able to chew lettuce now..... I can bite through things rather than tearing. I've actually had a hard time remembering to give up my fork and knife habit just to bite into a slice of pizza for example (see what I mean, another excuse for pizza... I need to " practice " biting or I " deserve " to eat one since this is the first time I can eat one that way)! I have not yet ventured to very hard things yet though because my teeth tend to be more tender from ortho. Sept. will be 6months post op. My surgeon said around 6-8 months post-sx, my screws and plates would start to resorb. I can't wait for them to be Gone! There is the risk of infection at that time, but hopefully I am able to avoid it.... That's a pretty comprehensive update! are you bored yet or did you stop reading 2 paragraphs ago!!? Keep in touch and tell me how your healing progresses. I will hope that the numbness is not due to any infection. Take care and keep in touch- it was nice to hear from you!
