A couple of places for oximeters and there are dozens of excellent

places:

We have dozens of members who have bought this one for $65.

Also, here in Nonin's new GO2 which is $99.00.

As to ebay, some of the ones sold there are FDA approved. Others are

approved only for sports use. If they do no specifically state FDA

approved, do not buy them.

Anyone have a problem getting O2 readings due to cold fingers? I have a

terrible time. When I finally get a reading it is in the 80s. I am not on

oxygen because my readings on the 6 minute walk stays in the 90s. Does the low

O2 cause the cold fingers or do the cold fingers cause the low O2 readings?

Chicken or the egg?

the cold fingers can mess up your reading

as i discovered this fall

warm up your finger before the reading

use hot or warm water, sometimes on the treadmill, i put my finger in my armpit to warm it up

rub your hands together

the cold finger reading can be scary

The meter works by measuring the red light that comes through your finger and the blood. Darker blood lets less red light through, while redder oxygenated blood will let it more red light through. It is a very simple concept, but it doesn't work well if the finger is not warm and filled with blood. When cold, as you may know, your body tries to bring blood into your torso and head more and away from limbs. The meter works, but better when you are comfortable.
