Guest guest
Hey, Gang! Gotta question for ya. Has anyone else been diagnosed as a Type I, insulin dependent diabetic post WLS surgery? My son had his surgery 9/21/01 and about 9 mo later was put in the hospital for ketoacidosis. We have been fighting with our insurance co to get some reconstructive surgery done so that the insulin pump he now wears 24/7 can do the job it was designed to do. He is fighting extreme highs (300+) and lows (32) at this time. Just can't seem to get to a steady level. Sure would be nice to find someone else that may know more than we do about this. We are wondering just how the new plumbing would affect his insulin needs. Like, since his tummy doesn't hold on to the food, does that mean that he will get a higher blood sugar quicker than the normie? Maybe some of you Type II's can shed some light on this? Or maybe there is some pre-op Type I's out there that also use the pump? Our WLS doc says that Ike, my son, is an anomaly. (Of course Momma just thinks he's cute, LOL) Would appreciate any help you guys can give! Blessings! Reba
