Hi, I am new to this group. I had my surgery on Sept. 28th and it has

been a rough ride so far. I had both upper and lower jaws done to

correct my open bite. I have had many surgeries in my life, but none

this painfull. There are so many things that the doctors don't tell

you about this surgery. I had to go to the emergency to get a shot of

Morfine because the pain was too much to handle. Then had an infection

in my lower right jaw. My doc said that I must be one of the few who

weren't quite so numb. I wish I had found this support group before

the surgery so I could get a better idea of what it would be like

after the surgery. The few people I did speak to said they did not

have much pain and went back to work after 2-3 weeks with no problems.

I keep trying to concentrate on the end results and a great smile

after dealing with this my whole life.

Reading all the postings has helped me along in my recovery. I welcome

any feedback.

Thanks

Hi wytogogrl3398,

I think most of us hate the idea of the numbness immediately post

op, but when people don't have it, it actually causes them more

distress. I am sorry you are going through a difficult ride. It

sounds like part of that is due to the infection also, and on top of

the sensation issue. The good thing is that you know you will have

full sensation, because you already do. So ultimately it may be a

positive thing, though right now I am sure it sucks big time.

Hang in there! Did your OS say if the infection was better under

control? I am thinking when this is cleared completely, it might be

better. When was the last time you spoke with your OMS? If you

still are having pain issues, you might contact the OMS office and

ask for some relief with at least some sleep -type meds. I know I

was on Ambien on a second course for a different unrelated surgery.

It wasn't so much to deal with the day pain, but at least it helped

me keep rested which also helps your recovery. I would call if you

are having severe discomfort.

Good luck with this! Please let us know what you find out!

Hugs,

Fran
