Guest guest
There can be several reasons for malabsorption issues. Most nutrients are absorbed as food goes through the small intestine, and there can be damage in this location that takes years to heal. Sometimes our bodies don’t produce enough enzymes to aid in the utilization of the nutrients – such as the loss of intrinsic factor used in absorbing B12 from foods and supplements (pernicious anemia). Sometimes there are neuropathies that impact absorption. Most of the time we will discover that time on SCD “fixes” the absorption issue, but some of us learn that the damage is too extensive. Or our bodies have aged enough that we can’t make a complete recovery. We will be better, but our digestion and/or bodies just don’t work the same. Kim M.
