Guest guest
> i just attempted another batch of yogurt. i made a huge pot of boiling water .... sterilized everything that I was going to use. Put the milk in the sterilized measuring bowl … put it in the microwave for 8 minutes … came back and it was completely separated. Threw it out and put a pot of milk on the stove. Within minutes the milk started to coagulate and separate. I smelled it and it was rancid! Like gagging stinky! I just opened the container! This is the second carton of milk from the same lot number and x date of horizon organic whole milk … and I've used it for the last three batches ... and they were all ruined and moldy. I don't ingest milk so I never thought to taste it … or even smell it … the x date is 10-10-10. the milk was bad before I even started! Wow! Should I contact horizon? What on earth would I say? Start with -- " I want my money back. " Where did you buy it? Definitely go return it. Mara
Guest guest
i don't remember where i got it ... i'm going to look through receipts. that's a great idea mara ... i'll at least make the store give me my $$ back! i called the phone number on the carton and it's a long phone tree that just goes in circles. hitting zero never gets an operator. i just emailed them at their site and demanded to be compensated for the milk and all the other ingredients i used in my last attempts at the yogurt. my gosh, expensive, honey ... starter ... gelatin ... i wish i could get all the time and hand wringing back as well ... i have suffered ... all the work and still no yogurt. LOL how creepy! it tasted a little of the milk and my throat is still sore even though i gargled and brushed my teeth. well, at least it's not what i'm doing. LOL i'm happy to find that out. Guest guest
Sorry about all the wastage and precious energy you ended up using, but am happy for you, that you find out what was causing it. At least you know that you will be able to eventually have some yogurt after all! Horizon needs to know the issue even if it is through the grocery store. This is almost like Salmonella poisoning being spread unknown to consumers through improperly handled eggs etc. Suneeti (Crohns, SCD 2000)
Guest guest
Thanks for making me feel better Suneeti. Yes … i can make yogurt now without feeling so inept … i was getting so frustrated. I've never come across a food contamination like this. I really hope horizon has some sort of response … if not I won't buy their product again.
