Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Thank you to everyone who sent their prayers & good thoughts after hearing about my most recent ordeal. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your support. Here's the latest on my situation. Turns out I broke bones in BOTH feet. Can you believe it? And it turns out the right break is to the heel, not the ankle. The orthopedist said mine is one of the most painful breaks you can get, but I'm fortunate because it's only moderately serious as opposed to a patient he saw earlier in the day whose heel was fractured so bad, he actually got " bone blisters. " I've never even heard of such a thing. Sounds awful! Anyway, they put a cast on it & I'm not allowed to put ANY weight on it for at least 4 weeks, when he sees me again. Left fracture is to a bone on the top of my foot that he said can't be put in a cast, so he put one of those special boots on it, which actually lets me put weight on that foot without pain. My wrist is in a splint, but I can still use it. My sister from Phoenix came to see if she could help & decided I can't be on my own for awhile. So Sunday she's taking me to her place till next Friday & then I'm going to NE Arizona (Holbrook) to another sister's house through Christmas. She also rented this scooter-like thing for me called RollerAid that has a cushion to prop my right knee on while my right foot pushes it around. It has hand brakes & can turn all the way around fairly easily. It's pretty cool. With that, I actually don't feel like I need to be taken care of, but she's still insisting. Also, the orthopedist doubled the strength of my pain med & it's finally helping now. So -- everything, including my emotional state, is MUCH better now. (I'm sure the pain meds are helping that along too. LOL) It'll be nice to be with family for Christmas. I hope each & every one of you has a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or wonderful celebration of anything else you may be enjoying this time of year. I also hope you all get to be with loved ones during this special time. Cees, S Calif IPF/UIP 10/08 P.S. BTW, I'm taking my laptop, so I won't be out of reach.
