Krystal,

I'm 27 years old so consider myself a grown woman but my mom was with

me the whole time after surgery in the hospital and it was a BIG

comfort to me. The nurses were great but there is nothing better than

a familiar and loving face when you wake up. In my case my mother

said there was no way that she would let me go through the process on

my own. If she could have she would have come into the OR with me.

Anyway, there are plenty of people that do it all on their own so if

that's what you decide to do I'm sure you'll be fine. As for how long

does your husband need to take off after the surgery. I felt ok to be

on my own about 5 days after surgery. In fact I welcomed the ALONE

time because being constantly asked " are you hungry?, how do you

feel? are you in pain? " starts to drive you crazy.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Sara

you will need help the first 3 days after surgery for sure. It's difficult to

get your own drinks and medication, you will be pretty weak. While in the

hospital, I actually asked my husband to leave! I felt bad and just wanted to

lie there and stare at the clock. I was only in overnight, I had upper and

lower moved forward. After the 3rd day home you will be ok alone, but it's nice

to have someone to go to the store for you, etc.

I will be in the hospital the day of sx and two days after that. From

there I am trying to plan on my husband and grandparents to watch over

me. When will I be ok on my own if they have to go to work? I know the

first few days after I get out of the hospital my husband is taking off

work.

What about in the hospital? I know the nurses will be around, but is it

necessary to have my husband there the whole time? I would feel bad

that he would be as miserable as I right after the surgery.

Any suggesions or thoughts?

Krystal,

I was in hospital for ten days following my surgery, my mum was there through

out most of the day as she was too worried to leave me on my own. When I came

home I didn't move hardly, only to go to the bathroom and to bed. My mum did

everything else for me, because she didn't want to me over do it as I had been

told off at teh hospital for doing too much!

I was also on crutches which meant that I couldn't get myself a drink or

anything.
