Good healthy morning!

I had the weirdest experience this morning. My closet is jammed with

clothes my Mom gave me when she had to downsize to a condo. She's a

shopaholic with lots of money and good taste, so lucky me.

Anyway, at first I was looking at the size and thinking only a 16 or

above would do. But then I pulled out a 12 and looked at it. It

looked so big so I tried it on. Well, it's actually loose (Maggie

McNaughton). So I rejected the printed sizes and started looking at

the clothes themselves. I had too big 12's and too small 18's and

everything inbetween.

GEEEEZ!!!

It's not enough that I haven't really developed my own sense of style

yet, having been a slave to buying whatever fit for most of my life.

But now I don't even know what size to buy! This brings a whole new

dimension to clothes shopping. It's really tedious. Just another

unforeseen life skill I'll have to develop. My shoes are loose,

too...have no idea what size I am now..8? 81/2? 9? It's anybody's

guess.

So then the maid comes over and she's this little woman about my age

(shorter and much skinnier) and she says she wears a 12, 14 or 16

depending on the clothes. And I'm thinking " No way does this 140lb

5'4 " woman wear the same size as 210lb. 5'10 " me! "

Now I'm wondering if I have to throw away those numbers too and learn

to look at my size with a new set of eyes. Am I smaller than what I

perceive myself to be? Do I have body image distortion?

Hmmmm.. Food for thought. Time for a brain realignment.

Hope everyone is chipper today. Yesterday was a bummer for me. But

today is great. Just goes to show you.

Smiles,

Vicki

this touched me, as i am now almost at goal, my goal not the

doc's...

and i find myself still wearing loose tops...my daughters

are always encouraging me to wear smaller ones, sending me t-shirts from their

colleges etc...

funny how it does take time for my brain to catch up with my

body...

though i still like baggy sweaters over leggings for those

comfy hang out times...just not to hide any more...it is liberating...

i even feel freed from the mirror, as i used to need to know i

was covered, layered adequately, now i just am, whole again...

sighing,

laura

I have everything from 2 to 14 in my closet. And they all fit.

And they wonder why we can't get a grip on who we are. Sheesh

Hi Vicki. These things take time. I am three years post revsion and tummy

tuck and I Still have a real " thing " about sizes too. I shop at second hand

stores, mostly because it's just more fun. I am so vain about sizes that I

usually don't even try anything on unless it's on the small end of my size

range. Then, I don't have to be horrified if a bigger size fits! EEEEK!!

I know it's pretty silly, but I am not ready to let go of it. I am pretty

much over the numbers thing on the scale, but I think it's going to take me

longer on the size number thing.

For now, it's still fun to be vain, and I really don't mind. There is so

much variety at second hand stores, I decided that I can be size-choosy if I

want. What I do have to watch is that I don't get too smug about it. It's

not too popular with most people. Also I just know that if I am too

obnoxious about it, I will wake up one morning 30 lbs heavier than the day

before. LOL!
