Guest guest
I posted last week about Dalia's upcoming GI tests..the Upper GI and the OPMS(did I get this right??) Anyway, I didn't get an answer about running these tests differently for our RSS kids. I could have sworn that there was something... Anyway, can anyone give me some advice on these tests? Has your kid been through it and how did it go? Thanks, Sheryl (Dalia, 2 years RSS and Hanna, 4 mos non-RSS)
Guest guest
the one thing I remember Dr H saying during convention a few years ago, is that to make sure you get the doctors to do the test with the actual food that Dalia eats regularly. They will put some barium in it so that it shows up on the ultrasound machine as it passes through the stomach and if there is any reflux. Usually, the test is done just with barium solution but since this does not really have calories or fat, etc in it, it tends to present differently than when the actual food is included. When has done this, we've given the doctors about 100cc of his food that he regularly has, then they have dissolved the barium in that. We had to put the food in via an NG tube since he won't drink it. But the idea is to get something in the stomach that is as close to whatever food is usually consumed as the stable part of our kid's diet. Since they often have problems with calories, fat, food density, this is one point to try and mimick during test. tks debi mum to in Japan. The Upper GI is this Thurs...any advice?
